Yes. Especially in Washington state.

Another vote for the Tacoma, I'm driving a newer double cab 4x4 and it goes everywhere.
I had a single cab 2 wheel drive ranger before this and would definitely agree that you should skip the 2D and go with 4. You will be much happier in the long run.

anything that isnt 2 wheel drive..and something with some meaty tires on it! just cause its 4x4 dont mean it wont get stuck and good tires help..and it sure does snow in washington! lol
it all depends on what YOU like though..not to knock any of these guys but just cause everyone on this thread has said get a toyota, dosent mean its what you'll want in the end..get on craigslist, find some trucks you like and go check em..look at a variety and figure out which one youre the most comfortable with that will do what you need it to out in the woods.
PS, just cause it looks cool, dont mean it runs good!

vehicle prices vary all over the usa. so your local car lots and craigslist are your best bet for finding out what they cost in your area. the other issue for a first vehicle is fuel economy there are older four wheel drive trucks that are really cheap but the offset is in a month you'll have spent their full price on gas if you do much driving

herc check around on craigslist for a truck you can get some pretty decent deals. for a first truck i would go with an older toyota late 80's early 90's with the 22r or preferably 22re with a manual 5spd. for the price reliability and fuel economy they are really tough to beat and you can get them in the extended cab to haul your stuff around although i would hate to be the one riding in the back since you have to sit sideways but the extra room is very very nice to haul your gear.

85 to 89 1/2 toyota 4runner is pretty dam good. With the 85 you'll get a solid front axel witch is tuffer for the mountain driving, with the 89 you could find a v6 but there rare and a crapy engine 4cyl. is the way to go and diffinitly toyota is the way to go. those years also have a removeable rear top, nice when it gets hot. all the years after 89 have four door and look bad ass solid axled JMO

imo the v6 is junk and so is the automatic the v6 has a bad rep for head gaskets if i had a choice i would go with the 4cyl and 5spd its a pretty bullet proof setup although i would go with a pickup instead of the 4runner since you cant really put a dog box in a 4 runner. im sure there are a few people that have had good luck with the v6 but for the most part they seem like a pos. like i said this is just my opinion. good luck in what you buy and anything that gets you in the woods is better than nothing.

They didn't start with the v6 until 891/2. a two door 4runner with the removeable top and a v6 is pertty rare. I've seen a cuple but not many. Hell an 85 efi 4runner these days are pretty dam rare. But you find one of those with the SR5 package that would be sweet.

Under the kennels and dog boxes forum some body posted something on 4runners and I posted some pics of mine. I used hunt out of that thing alot until I bought a pickup, now its just a rock toy!

Another good thing about the 4runner is for camping. The rear seats fold down and a cheep twin air mattress fits prefectly between the fender wells, with the tail gate up! you'll never need a tent. Its comfertly bad ass lol..

Come on. You really do not know what you are talking about. There was a headgasket issue that was recalled way back. It was a recall, they fixed the problem. The v6 motors are a very good motor. The 4cylinder has has reached legendary status for being bullet proof, but the v6 junk?? No way.
