Where were all you guys when I was single? I ask mine if he can take the dogs out for me while I'm at WORK and he gives me attitude about it.

I bear, cat and coon hunt by myself all the time.
I always try and tell my hubby or a friend or leave a note for where I'm going, in my younger days I spent way to many days broke down or stuck and walking with no one knowing where I was til' I hit the main road. Course it helps that I finally got a newer truck and a cell phone. The biggest thing I ever worry about is other humans as they are generally the worst thing you will run across out there.
I really enjoy hunting by my self although company in small amounts or the right people is good also...I think a lot of people don't like to hunt alone because they think if no one else saw it then no one else will believe they caught it. I really don't care so I guess it doesn't bother me.
It does still SUCK to be alone and get into a bee nest or break down.
It also helps if your dogs handle well, there are times when I have to lead 5 - 7 dogs alone.

That is my only concern with hunting alone.
I do like doing it once in a while though (going out tomorrow AM alone, actually), as said before you learn if your dogs have what it takes and it is pretty rewarding if you do get one up a tree.
Oh ya and a garmin makes hunting alone MUCH MUCH more doable.

not so much in kill season but most of the time in training season with 2 or 3 dogs, it gets kinda hard if you get in a rough place to handle any more dogs than that. I also have a dog that if there is more than 4 or 5 dogs at the tree he leaves and goes hunting again as if to say you dont need me here..LOL

For the first year I only hunted with my buddies to learn the basics. After that I have hunted by myself about half of the time. I have learned my dogs much better that way and my dogs also do better without so many dogs running around confusing them. I use the garmin so that makes things alot easier, but I think the next time I hunt by myself I will also put on the beep beep collars. The last time out they got pretty far from any roads and I thought that I was going to have to leave them overnight. Boy was I glad when I finally got to them. I always bring some survival equipment and water and an mre so if I do get screwed up I can at least go for another 24 hours. The down falls of hunting alone are mostly just fears so prepare for what you might fear and enjoy the advantages to hunting alone. Which I think the advantages by far outway the disadvantages.

I can NOT stand to follow someone threw the woods. I'm not endurance race horse but, I like to move on....when I want to and stop when I want to. I don't like having someone constantly saying, "stop did ya hear that" inbetween breaths, just to get me to wait for them. I like to get up and go when I want to and hate waiting for someone to get there or bitching because "it's raining". If I want to hunt all day and then stay all night I can because I carry enough stuff for ME not two people. Then I have to take them back to the truck and that just defeats the purpose of staying the night because I wanted to stay deep.
However, I also hate it sometimes when I tree a "pretty" nice bear but, don't want to kill it to the dogs myself and no one can get to me..... in the next 5 hours. It is nice to have help packing em out but, I still would just rather just do it myself and leave most of the bear in the tree.

so I suppose I will keep her around a little bit longer before I trade her in for a COUPLE of 30 year old BIMBO's Better wait though I might NOT be able to AFFORD THEM
We have yer round here so it is not a problem to get rid of me. She doesnt shoot but wants to try, the problem is she is non member so we have to be sneaky haha.

I'll keep that in mind the next time he's in the doghouse... could be as soon as this weekend, cause I'll be working again, and it's his job to take the dogs out.

I got my bear chase license because my hounds were treeing bears when we were coon hunting (mostly alone) anyway. Just wanted to be legal. Then I found I liked it.
I'm an old lady with bad knees, and I worry that I can't get to my hounds in these mountains quick enough to get them out of trouble if they get into it. I try to take some younger people along to get to the hounds quicker than I can, but I know that most of the bears around here will jump out over the dogs after they've rested up a bit. Sometimes the bears come right into the yard and I just let the dogs out, then get dressed and try to find the hounds. Sometimes I know the dogs are treed but I don't get there in time. My smarter dog will come check on me if I don't get there in reasonable time. One of these days I'm going to sprain my ankle or break something and have to spend the night in the woods, but until I do...
I don't hunt cornfield bears alone though. They're too likely to stand their ground.
