In one of the areas that I hunt that is really brushy it takes some pretty good dogs to have a 20 percent catch rate , so I easily pull a 0 in that area!lol

Hey, I was asking questions and answering questions, trying to legitimately answer a question YOU asked. So I'll leave the high powered Walkers at home. I've caught a whole lot more than 11 bears this year, and we'll leave it at that.

I'm not quite sure, you come on here and say you can't catch bears, and need help - but then you cop an attitude.

a zone bears and d zone bears are diiferent, wether its the counrty or the bear, everybody knows that. that hunts it. i was over there in the early seson and never caught a bear maybe cause there fat and in coon hunting shape or maybe there junk but i get them in shape for d zone running deer and coyotes and the occasional timber tiger, guess i need some different dogs cause im 0 for 4 on bears over there. im sendin them all back to there breeders. so if the breeders want them back go ahead and chime in. :beer

Redwood I am with you I thought this guy sounded like a beginner.

At crittergetter: I have hunted hounds only about half as long as you have and I still have a lot to learn but some things in your posts don't add up. I also hunt in brushy country and I very rarely see the game I am running until it bays up or trees so I very much question your 90% sitings. Running 65 bears in 26 days with only 6 dogs isn't believable either. A running bear destroys my pack. If my dogs are in shape and it isn't to hot, they fall out anywhere between 10 & 20 GPS clocked miles. There is no way that I could run 65 bears in 26 days with 54 being runners even if I split my pack.

If what you posted is actually the truth and after hunting for 20+ years I would recommend you find a different sport if you aren't able to accept the fact that you need better dogs.

I think he is saying it has been an unusually harder year in his area to put the finish to a race and is sharing that humbly to find if others are having the same issue. I know a couple friends on the Klamath that are running some double tough buggers.
Redwood, in case you don't understand how etiquette works, you insulted him first and he came back at you fair play and now you're all butt hurt and sooo insulted that he might know a thing or 2. Smart of you to back out, though, cause it wouldn't have gone well for you, but I hope you prove me wrong. Your dogs better not be growlly, hahaha. You old pro.

I have experienced the same thing this fall where I was hunting very brushy and double tuff bears we turned loose on 20+ and treed 3. So according to alot of people I better get some new dogs. Hey redwood you treein so many bear where are the pictures bear section has been lacking good pics lately.

wow lets ask anyone for help then when they try to help with your question lets get all yappy
what dos it matter how long you have been doin somethin ever see someone at your place of work who has been there for more than 30 years and are still screwin up on the job or just not as good at it as some one else who has been there only a few years
i know guys playin semi pro football for 20 years probably most high school kids are better and have a better shot at becomin a pro at 40 ya chances are zero
i only have a few dogs but i can name probably 40 or fifty hounds by name and i dont need to feed them to tell you which ones i want in the truck when its time to fill my tag
i know more guys that come along to help or watch other peoples hounds hunt and they been around enough to know whats goin on and because they dont have hounds that dos not make them any less knowledgeable if any thing they will tell how it is not favorin any dog or breed because they go for fun and adventure not storys
years ago when i got into this and seen lots of dogs in the woods and after readin full cry and even on here it is laughable some of the breeds that get a lot of talk
i have freinds that have treed thousands of bears and they would never go on a forum what could they tell you about your dogs or your problem that you say now you have all the answers
i have been one place this year and seen bears treed some mornins one bear and some mornin two bears treed and we were at the diner never later than 9am for breakfast done no bs storys etc and same pack in a diffferent state two bears in 6 days well combined years runnin bears more than a hundred in the group wtf happened only the hounds could tell ya that :beer but beech nuts and tons of green thick brush from all the rain didnot help
i know a 12yr old girl who has been to more than 11 bear trees this yr if you want some advice i will see if i could get you her email oh wait ya just lookin to start a fight you have all ya answers right and redwood told ya she treed more than 11 so now ya want pictures man what ever and i seen more bears than that in trainin season
some years i drag more than that out if you need to know well good luck chasin bears i like treen and eatin them :beer and whiskey chief

what a bunch of women with their panty's in a bunch on this sight. Got to love this sport though cuz most everyone with a dog box is a know it all willing to tell you what your doing wrong without looking in the mirror. Everyone assumes and nobody knows, lots of he said she said bullshit. keep it up though it makes for good reading while i have to work. :D

I have hunted with crittergetter for the last 3 or 4 yrs now. I have not been able to get over to this new spot and run any bear with him this yr due to work. But I can tell all of you there is nothing wrong with the dogs he runs or how he hunts. If he is having trouble putting up bears then these are some tuff ass bears in some tuff ass country. Crittergetter spends more days hunting and pushes his dogs harder then anyone I have seen. When he is running coon just to keep his dogs in shape I would bet his dogs see more coon in one yr then most will see in a life time and thats no BS. And when it comes to bears, his dogs other then the young ones have ran, bayed and treed more bear then I can keep track of and thats just while he has been hunting with me. Due to my work I have missed out on lots of good trees and many more great races.

I find it funny that he gets on here and ask a question and even offers an open inventaion to come hunt with him and all these internet experts come out and bash his dogs and how he hunts but not one of them nuts up and drives over to hunt with him. Why is that? Wait I think I know the awnser to this already and so do the others on here reading this. I tell you what if I had an add on here every other week trying to sell pups or offer my dog out to stud I wouldnt be getting on here talking about how amazing my dogs are then not be willing to show it..........

We had the worst year we've ever had, bar none. Had a massive wind storm and screwed up a lot of our favorite hunting spots. There isn't any elevation or rock, but it's now got the worst of everything else. After the dogs got tuned it though, we started to connect a bit more.

It wasn't just a matter of the dogs doing better, but by varying our tactics. You might already be doing this but I'll give a few ideas if not. If you're seeing the bear or runs somehow, hold back a few fresh dogs and pack them in after the original ones start to lose ground. I don't know if relaying is allowed or not, but pick those back ones and give them a shot of water and rest. Then put them back in. If it's runner bear that are giving you fits, try to find bigger ones that won't run as far before they catch. You'll proably be doing more stitching but I'd bet there will be more catching.

I had to chuckle at the "hunting for a bunch of years" talk. I know a bunch of old those types in WI that couldn't catch a stuffed bear in somebody's trophy room. But they'll be the first to tell you about how long they've been at. That's great but it ain't a union contract. It's a "what have you done for me lately" type deal. I've got a pile of respect for those old hounders who have been hunting for a coon's age and catching game the whole time. In fact they are some of my favorite people.

If you're pretty confident in your dogs, know the deal, it's most likely just a run of crappy luck.

crittergetter, we run into the same problem sometimes with the same dogs that looked like champions the year before, my suggestion is try hunting different! We were getting our asses kicked this spring and so we decided instead of hunting 8 dogs we split the pack and ran 4 for the first hour or so and then relayed the next 4 in and boy did our luck turn around! if you have a good road system you can do it, and what ive found out is if a bear wants to run he will gain about 2 minutes ahead of the dogs for every 20 minutes running. But by throwing in fresh dogs they will push the bear again and not give him a chance to get a steady pace going in front of the dogs!

If I was consistently catching bear before, and now I am not, I would look at what has changed. Is there any dogs missing from before?Sometimes you don't realize how much one dog contributes to the pack until their gone.Maybe it's because Livetohunt hasn't been able to hunt with you this year.Maybe the dog you called a killing machine is the missing link this year.
