Im not trying to be a dick but my buddy had those maxxis tires on his tacoma he bought them last december so they were roughly 8-9 mo old when he blew out a side wall while out hunting. Now here is why i don't like less schwab around where i live, 2 different stores told me this, They have road hazard coverage on there tires not off road hazzard so tough luck there not helping when you blow out a side wall in the woods. Now since my buddy also knew this he said he hit a pot hole on the highway and the sidewall blew out. Schwab comped him 55% of a new tire because that is how much tread was left and made him pay the difference plus $15 for mounting and balancing 1 tire. I think that is kinda jankey myself and i will never go to schwab now.

toyo mt's on my v-10 f-250. last me longer than I want to look at them, get me anywhere in the snow I have business being. I'm getting a little over a year of hard mountain miles out of mine or 40,000+ miles. this set I have is my 3rd set on the truck. if you can afford the expensive s.o.b.'s they are worth it. the first year that the economy really took a dive I couldn't afford to buy new ones when the tread was gone. I drove another six months on rocky roads and still have yet to get a flat. bonus!

Why should lesschwab cover a mistake that could have been avoided. They have road hazard, which covers on hwy, and street. Not off road most will cover gravel rds, but not four wheeling ect. But if ya read there paper work it list all they cover. I run the big horns as well marshal and for the price you can't beat them. And food for thought if ya buy a truck , you don't go back to the dealer when you put a dent in the tail gate or burn a bulb out. Or break I window. Not trying to start anything but lesschwab takes care of there customers.

well i know for a fact that big-O will will replace any tire that blows out a side wall on or off road no questions asked where i live, i don't know about other places. Also they wont charge you for mounting and balancing when you do have to get one replaced. I personally won't buy tires from eithor anymore they are way too expensive and i can get better tread and tires for a lot cheaper.

How could it have been avoided, it happened on a gravel road and schwab will tell you to get bent if there is dust and dirt on the tire. And your food for thought analogy doesn't make sense cuz those are things that are done to a truck from not being carefull Its not like he went out and stabbed the side wall with a knife. Just like a dent wont appear and a window won't break unless you hit something or something hits your truck. :D

I guess the only way it truely could have been avoided is to not drive and stare at the pretty tires.

This is the 5th winter I have had my truck.. It had brand new Maxxis Bighorns when I bought it.. I just now broke down (two weeks ago) and bought tires for my truck again.. They lasted a decent amount of time (60,000 miles plus) and did well for me..

I traded some welding for a set of Toyo M55's (don't know if it's the same as the "mudder") and have been really pleased all the way around. Great life, hiway manners, and above av. off-road (mounted on a Land Rover, 5-6k pounds).
When I build my next truck, I hope to find some Michelin XZL's.

Marshall wrote:Maxxis bighorns. I love these tires and they are my second set. I had one set on a full sized gmc sierra and they made all the difference in the world on that pickup. I now have them on my new tacoma and i know they do good on these pickups because a buddy of mine ran them for two winters and they did awesome on his. Take it for what its worth but thats my experience with them.

+1 i have about 6-7k on mine now and they still look pretty new just have to keep them rotated and the price is a lot cheaper than most tires

I work at a tire shop in big snow country. What ive see is its Mileage vs Tracksion. Mileage tire have a tighter tread pattern (BFGs At, cooper at3) wont swim though deep sown or clay. The agressive tracksion will have gaps in the tread as wide as your finger. Biger the the gaps means more highway noise less mileage. As for experiance Last year elk hunting my cusins durango crawled out of a 40 degree nasty sidways hill and all he had was half worin nitto terra grapplers. SUPER AWSUM. This elk season we took my dogde 3500 cummins with half worin mickey thompson baja MT. they worked great slow crawled it in little snow and nasty clay

I run a lot of rock Country with my Toyota Tacoma using Cooper STT's. I'm on my second set. They were sipped on the middle for ice. Work great in mud too. Not noisy on the highway. Wear great. 40,000 plus depends if you rotate ur tires every 5000 miles.

I really like the style for the STT. I have a lady that comes in the shop and her and her family are the only people I know that actually NEEDs mudd tires!! She drives a long bed four door 2500 cummis and thats her school bus mail truck grociery getter. She had STTs and they did great in the nasty of nasty but wore hard in 1 year. Thats a big dodge compared to a Tacoma

i buy bfg a/t from sams club for full and small and get great wear they are worth the money with no howl on the road . studded snow tires are hard to beat as far as traction without the fuss of chains though . as far as the road hazard gimmick to get more for thir tires i tell them to shove it i can plug my own tire if it is pluggable if not i will buy a new tire because fighting with them over it if you buy the road hazard is absolutely ridiculous so why not skip it.it is all in their control and your going to lose.take this from someone who has dealt with it ,and learned from it.
