First off i would like to thank Doc Neal,

You seem like a up standing Doc and gentleman.

I just had another run in with a vet that i want to go and yank that son of a $%#@$ out of his office a give him a whoopin!! That being said my wife had a sick taco bell dog That i was giving antibiotics and a pain med. And it was not getting better.Then the dog started hemiringing not sure of spelling. But i told her to take the dog to the vet and see what the cost is and see if he might work with us. Well the damn dr or should i say quack says you dog is going to die either way and i want 1500 dollars to try and save it or 100.00 to put it down. So my wife being upset brought her home and called me to have someone take her down to do it. So i had my brother inlaw take it down and a lady vet came in and said this dog can be saved at a cheaper way. She told us go to this other vet. She also said she is only 25 percent owner of this place and she is selling out and looking for work else where because she feels he needs to lose his license. We took the dog to this other vet and he took the dog did surgery and it only cost 800.00 dollars and he works with us.Now any other dog i would have believed this guy but this taco bell dog is special. She actually saved my little boys life which is now 11. When he was 2 years old he stopped breathing and lost pulse and this dog ran up and down the hall barking and scratching my wife on the face until she woke up and then ran to my boys face and barked. My wife check my son and he needed cpr even the ambulance had to give him cpr to the hospital. If it was not for this dog he would not be by my side to hunt. Some people does not believe a dog can do that but trust me i do believe now.

I also had another vet tell me one time i am not going fix your hound up so you can go get it hurt again. Some vets are against houndsmen. I wish i lived closer i would come and use this doc neal. He sounds respectful enough to give his provisional opion on this web site at no charge when most around here are money hungry.

No doc, She got pyrometrea. And they removed a 2 pound cyst out of her. It is hard to find a vet that is willing to work with someone that can not just fork out 1500.00 or 1000.00 dollars. My old vet used to until he went to large animals. Not small animals.

The dog weighed 10 pounds going in and she now weighs 7.5 pound after surgery. She is jumping around and stuff now but she acts as if she is dying of thirst. She was up all night drinking water and restless.

You know for you to offer any advise you have is very respectful of you. That advice can help out alot of people so they can trust their own vet now.

Doc. Neal,
Had a bear bite my hound down thru the top of the nose and upper jaw. Ended up breaking the upper jaw and part of the top plate. The break is between the last two teeth. The vet that saw him said that she would recommend taking the dog to an orthopedic to possibly get a plate put in on the upper jaw to hold it together so it would heal. She said fortunantly the teeth are still lining up right and it was a chance it may heal but everytime he eats or laps water it moves decreasing the chance of it healing. Va. Tech is about the only place that will mess with it and I don't have several thousand dollars to spend at this time. What do you think the chances are of his jaw healing?

I know worming is guess work without a fecal sample. But i'm currently using safeguard/ fenbendazole and equimax/ praziquantel for three days in a row, monthly. Since i'm using the fenbendazole do I need to add strongid paste to get the pyrantel pamoate?

Reason I ask is drontal plus contains all the above mentioned for a broad spectrum wormer. But drontal is very expensive in my book. Thanks in advance.

To the question: I have a male that has had been getting a lot of exercise the month of December. He slimmed down quite a bit and now I am having trouble getting weight back on him. He is also a little dehydrate (lifting skin on back). I have been giving him pedialyte, I recently switched over from dog chow, to Iams, and now to Diamond Natural dog food. I am also giving him canned food with each meal but nothing seems to be helping to get the weight back on. Do you have any other ideas or is it time to get him into a vet?

Man, I apologize!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been on the sight but had not checked this post in a while.
So to make up for lost time I would say take him to a vet. Before you go to the vet make sure he up to date on his wormings and vaccines. Also whenver you change food do it slowly and make a transition. Is the dog having any diarrhea or vomiting?
