Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker
Re: Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker
I don't have a garmin so exact distance I can't give you. However a mile is generally never a problem. I think sportdog is producing some better innovations then TT who really hasn't pushed to much on improvements or new products. The common sense idea of combining tracker and E collar was done by sport dog. And my system is covered by a life time warranty which is probably their undoing as I hope to live for awhile. Since they do produce a good product and do stand by their warranties so far I will support them. Their two mile claim may not be accurate but its close if you can hear or see your dog there's a high probability you can reach them. The only downside is they don't have the tone feature on as many systems as they should and some its tone then shock combined which is useless unless you turn the power completely down.

sheimer wrote:Mr. Robbie, I won't begin to tell you how to train your dogs as I know that you are way more capable than most. I will offer the suggestion of using the model 70exp and save the hundred bucks. I use the 70 and a guy I hunt with uses the trashbreaker and we get the same range(both of us loose contact just over the first ridge). I don't think there's a dime's worth of difference except the price tag.

Scott, I have often wondered about that. I think they are probably taking the same unit and either slapping a 70EXP or Trashbreaker sticker on it. I think I'll save up my dollars to invest on a Sportdog unit. I didn't know Sportdog had come that far until reading ya'lls post on here. I would sure like to have a TT and Sportdog unit side by side and do a field test under the same conditions and distance just to compare the two different units. Thanks for ya'lls responses. I have been enlightened. Robbie
Re: Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker
Check your shock collar on another dog. I have had dogs that were not sensitive to electricity. I could stand right by them and shock them and all they would do is tense up there muscles and go right ahead on what they were doing. Very hard to get its attention. I had a electrician that did wiring for me that touch 110 to the back of his hand to test it. Sometimes he would lick his hand before he could feel it. I think some dogs can be the same way. They just don't feel the shock as others do. Dewey

Re: Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker
Yes sir Mr. Walton, I have seen dogs tense-up and take a shocking without saying a word. But my young dogs I'm using right now are not that away. They'll hollar on number 2 setting when I'm close enough to reach them. But I have also drove away with the collar and leave my brother with the transmitter (I make sure he has it on setting number one) I hold the contacts myself and call him on the cell phone to tell him to hit the button. And I can't feel a thing. I also watch the light on the collar and it will not light up when stimulation is applied. I have done this with all the collars (6) of the unit. I know the problem has to be in the transmitter. I have sent one of them in to tri-tronics, guess I"ll have to wait and see what they come up with. Thanks for the tip. Robbie

Re: Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker
Some advice that i can give, The sportdog 3225 does have a tone only and 7 different levels of intensity, the remote for the 3225 is rechargeable also. The collars can be set on a low med or high setting individualy. All my friends use tri-tronice and i use the sportdog this is in pretty big mountain ranges with tall trees. I have alwayse been able to shock when they could and it has never failed me, but i have never actually taken my sportdog system out and seen what the actual range line of sight was or compared it to a tri-tronics system to see what one works better. (I probably should). I do know that it hurts like hell if you have the collar on high and the remote on 7. I have never had to use more than a 4 on the remote to get my point across. The only downfall that i have noticed was that you can only use collar straps that are 3/4 of an inch wide instead of the 1in.

Steve White wrote:Scott, might be onto something there. Talking to Sportdog a while back. I asked about the difference in collars. Since several models work with several units. They told me the range was not affected. Just that the intensity of the shock was greater at longer distance. The IH being the top collar. So an 8 was an 8, but the next collar down would only be a 6 while on 8 at the longer range.
Not sure how that would work with the TT. Since they are the same collars. It's a thought though.
Doubt you would shock a dog using CB. Maybe? CB is AM. Pretty sure the collars are FM. I have seen CB's mess with some remote control toys.
Well when i tone or shock I can hear static on my cb. I wont get into the legality of cb's but lets just say mine aint stock lol it does have fm to though.

Re: Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker
I have been getting around a mile on mine...supposed to be 2 miles. Using the tone setting to call a dog back. Its been line of sight though as I can see the dog across the canyon.
I have a question on recharging. Is it better to keep them on the charging stands when not in use or only charge when they blink red for low charge? I know this makes a differance on cell phone battery life(overcharging can shorten the charge a cell phone battery will hold) and I have seen rechargeable flashlights overheat if kept charging all the time. So I have been only charging mine if they are low...

Re: Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker
Well yes it would be best to let it get low then fully charge then take it back off. The transmitter shouldn't need charged very often because its only using power when a button is depressed thats why it doesnt have a power button on/off button. But I charge my collars everynight and the transmitter every 2-3 days also the cold is supposedly bad for batteries so if you keep them in the shop or something that could decrease there life.
Re: Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker
When you do the test you should have your friend turn the dial up when you can't feel it the first time. I think the farther out they are, the less intense the shock so you have to crank the dial up to get it to work. At least that is what I have found.

Re: Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker
Dula,
When you press the button on the transmitter of the tri-tronics to a collar, not only does it shock, the light on the collar lights-up. So...when I was doing my field testing, holding the collar above my head, not only was I touching the contact points I was also watching the light on the collar. And it didn't light-up.
Dula, if I'm going to turn the dial up to a higher setting on the transmitter, I might need you to come help me do a field test. I'll push the button and you hold the collar. Ha HA. Just pulling your leg. I can take it on settings 1,2,&3 but that's my limit and 3 is getting pretty hot for me. I just can't handle that stuff. If I was a dog all you would need to do is give me a good tone and I would behave myself but be my luck to have a hot-head master that couldn't control his temper and put it on number 6 and burn my britches off. I'll get off here. Thanks for the tip though. Robbie

Re: Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker
I have always considered TT to be the superior until reading this thread. I bought a refurbished one that touches out there far as I need to go. It is by line of sight, and ranges are often skewed I do not know of any tracking product that lives up to its range.

Re: Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker
I have dt systems shock unit, works out to around 800 yards and I only have to charge the collar and hand held once a month. No tone on it though. I use it about six nights a week.
