I have ended up at the tree with as little as one dog, not by choice but that’s how it goes sometimes. I like at least three dogs min. for safety reasons. When starting a track depending on the age of track is what dog I ship. If hunting by myself I like to ship my young dogs first and then a cleanup dog to help the young dogs if they hang up. When I have a client it is all business and older dogs start the track. I see a fair amount of races go south from to many dogs getting shipped before the started dogs have a chance to get anchored.

I hunt by myself most of the time and can handle 5 dogs, So I hunt 5 dogs most of the time. Also I can hunt those 5 dogs off my quad comfortably.

I have caught alot of bear with 2 dogs but I prefer more. :)
