michael.magorian wrote:Thanks Bearhunter, I kind of stepped into that one. The question is what kind of a dog is a majestic, as far as coon huning goes? Do they stay close or are they wide open? Are they hot, warm, or cold nosed? Can they keep up with a pack of coon hounds? How are they on the tree? There you go, a little more specific.
majestic's are any hound crossed on a bloodhound they breed for size and ears the ones ive seen were great track dogs but thats all no tree in them bearhunter is right they are nothing but crossbreeds ask majestic tree hounds on UKc i belive he has one that has won in waterraces i think he is a nice dog he has some speed to him

i would just stay with the black and tans , but that is my two cents. unless that malel bloodhound is a top notch cooner i wouldn't cover any females with him. But i know nothing about majestics either. Good luck if you do make a cross.

If you want big, dumb, slow, track straddling, culls then just stick with black and tans. I'm not sure why you'd want to magnify all the bad traits of a dying breed by breeding it with a dog that has similar bad traits. To each his own I guess. I guess you can breed them for looks and call them a majestic but I think theres a reason why dogs like that aren't being bred anymore.

bloodhound crosses don't always make hunting dogs.It takes a blood hound that has some hunt in him.It also takes a good hound to cross to.
Chris Lance has bloodhounds that make hunting dogs without being crossed. Most bloodhounds track different than hounds they track by
body scent where your cold nose hounds will stradle a track.

not all A.K.C. black and tans are slow. Its true the show people have just
about destroyed the breed. But I have had some good ones.

bloodhound crosses work if you use the right hounds in the cross. If not
ya end up with lap dogs.never use two slow type of hounds in this cross.
you would be doubling on falses.

I have a 2 year old half blue tick and half blood hound and that dog can move a coon or cat track like no 2maro. also he tree's hard and stays treeing till you pull him off and he aint no where near to what you guys are describing on here.
iv never hunted black and tans but if the parents are proven hunters why not.
here's a cell phone video of him treeing on a bobcat. not good video quality but his the big blue tick.

Uneducated. There are cat hunters using majestics with great success, and as it turns out, they are using that "dying breed" you know so much about on cats and doing well too...but, I'm not one to dispute the facts from a solid houndsman like yourself.
