Bobcat track age.

Never been able to determine how old most of those early morning tracks that gave the dogs a tough time were. I have seen cats in the road, dogs enter the road very close to the cat and the track seem to be a cold track. Witnessed one such cat cut back on it,s track sneak between two young dogs that were trailing behind the older dogs. One of the older dogs, able to figure it out & pack eventually treed that tom. Sure the pack had ran that tom numerous times before, without catching the cat. That is a good reason I enjoyed hunting in the day. Al

Excellent reading. Hearing the type of information I wanted to know. I was trying mostly to compare my opinion to others. I think to consistently catch cats you need three things, good conditions, fresh tracks, and dogs that can get it done in a way you like.

I am amazed at your hounds scenting abilities. Since I have joined this forum the ability to take hour old tracks and to turn them into caught cats has fascinated me the most. I try and hunt caracal on my farm in South Africa and I believe the tracks that I pick up are very hot (30 minutes at most). Often the hounds will pick up a track and I will see by how they work it that it is a caracal. If they are not able to catch the cat they eventually give up. Thats when I tell myself that it is an old track. The conditions here I would consider as arid; 12 inches avg rainfall.
