My tree climber is the most intense tree dog I have. Bug eyed slober flying, I think its his tree style. Im going to have his semen pulled and frozen, in case he does a swan dive to hell.

Anyone who says they can 100% break a dog from climbing or running trash, I will show you you can't. They are dogs. You can train them, and train them well, but in the end, just like us, at some point they are going to make a decision for themselves when your not there. Maybe not all the time, but on occasion. I spend as much or more time with my dogs as ANYONE, they are very well trained, and have an excellent handle on them. There is a lot of crap people put up with that I won't. But to say a dog isn't any good because it's smart enough and gritty enough to want to CATCH what it's after, well, thats a first!

No such thing as a BROKE anything in my book. Just very well trained. Training the climbing out of a dog works just about as well as training a dog fighter not to fight. Might work when your there, but have them stay treed for about 6 hours alone, and see what happens.

Redwood do you have a dog that you would like broke from tree climbing? Is this dog trained not to bark in the kennel at home? Does he know that you do not want him to run trash? If you have trained or (broke) him to handle well he can be trained not to climb.

Okay, I want you to take an excellent coon kill dog and teach it to 100% never touch a coon, when it catches one on the ground when your not there, have it just bay at the coon. If you can do that, then I will believe you can break a dog from climbing. My dogs climb because they know they can reach the game, end of story. No matter how much they obey me, them wanting to catch what they are running out weighs it. They have all pushed and fought game in a tree. Short of completely breaking them off a coon/fox/bear or treeing, you will not break them. It might work for a dog that is scared to catch what it's running, or just likes "trailing" but a real treedog that climbs isn't going to just be broke of it like they would running trash or shut up in the kennel.

Like I said, I don't want to watch my dogs fall out of a tree and die. But I have seen it in ALL dogs. It is learned, it is hereditary, it is just part of owning a smart, driven, treedog.

You sure are not giving them smart,driven,treedogs of yours much credit! Maybe you should rethink how smart those dogs of yours really are or maybe it is not the dogs at all that are lacking just the trainer. I do not have trouble with tree climbing dogs because I break them from climbing and they damn sure will kill a coon on the ground.

We hear you can do it but what is your method? I have 2 that are serious climbers and need to fix it. Mine are tied up or shocked if need be at the tree if they begin to climb but what method do you use to prevent the climbing when your several hours away from the tree. IMO some dogs climb and some dont. Not all of mine have been climbers. I dont believe there is a training method around that would prevent a dog from climbing when your not there if the Cat or Bear is active in a tree or on a leaner.

I thought most hounds climbed trees, they climb fences too, thats why we put lids on the kennels. If you shock a dog at a tree thats trash, or shock a dog thats climbing, how will it know the difference? this is interesting and I am all for a way to stop tree climbing.

I AM ALL EARS ON THIS SUBJECT. IT SEEMS THERE ARE 50 OF US ON HERE THAT IN OUR COMBINED HUNTING EXAPERIENCE HAVE NOT FOUND A WAY TO SUCESSFULLY DEAL WITH THIS UNWANTED- FRUSTRATEING PROBLEM.

THEN THERE IS ONE PERSON WHO CLAIMS TO HAVE THE ANSWER AND IS TALKING IN CIRCLES WITH NO SUBSTINATIVE ANSWER.

YOU KNOW DOGS ARE A LITTLE BIT LIKE KIDS. WHEN YOU ARE AROUND THINGS CAN BE GO PRETTY GOOD AND WHEN YOU ARE NOT, THINGS CAN SURE GO HAY WIRE. ALSO THERE ARE SOME KIDS THAT YOU JUST CAN NOT DO ANYTHING WITH.

I was able to stop my Jake dog from climbing but I caught him right away and didn't let him get away with it. Then a newer dog came along and climbed and I didn't catch him right off so old Jake went back to climbing when I am not at the tree...

Now they both will come out right away if I catch them but I am sure when I am not around they are climbing around those trees like little monkeys. But atleast they don't climb alot and mostly on leaners, still worries me a little since it would only take one time for a fall to happen.
