It seems to be the oppisate for me. Now that I have the garmin, I seem to let the dogs work an older track more than I did before the garmins. The garmin has been a game changer for me, I could have never brought young dogs along this fast before. The amount of information I see on it still amaze's me. John.

I only hunted telemetry a few years with a buddy of mine but it was always turn the dogs out and off to walking! Now I can sit in the truck alot of times and cut around to save time. When you walk behind on snow you can fix things faster for the dogs by pointing out the lose. That is all I am saying John. I think the garmin is great and I would never go without it now. Just sometimes ill make myself wish I had followed behind rather than skirt around.

Just a thought but maybe dogs figure out that when they are having problems ol dad will be there shortly to give em a hand. Maybe I'm old or just plain ol lazy but i give my dogs little to no help. All this stuff should come natural for them. At some point in time i got to where the catch wasn't as important to me as making good dogs was. When i finally got to that point it wasn't long until it seemed the dogs didn't need as much help.

Mark you are right own. When starting young dogs without an older dog i will help a lot to make sure whats going on. I like to help them when it does them good other wise stay out of there way. A lot of times I have hurt them on track when I thought I knew more than they did. Dewey

Another bad habit, I am unsure how it got started. I have a female who is very independent, she does honor some but not a whole lot. So if she makes a lose, and another dog picks it up she will sometimes get behind and hits a road... and trys to cheat or find me. The other day she ended up several miles down country from me. I know part of it is from hunting off roads alot, curious if anyone else has seen this. She's a good dog, just an annoyance time to time.

My bad habit was walking in a half mile to help out a loss on a cold track only to hear the dogs found it right before I get there. Sense the garmin, I try to stay out of it and let the dogs do there job. I've been unlucky this year and always seem to put down on the long end of a feeding track, been some tough going but I feel those hours of cold trailing has to be teaching the young dogs something good..

Mark, I don't think think it's old or lazy just plain common sense, and I agree with you, I would like to call it wisdom when we get up in years for most, but sometimes I wounder about myself, but I would rather depend on my dogs not them depend on me.

Many have lost touch with reality. And become way way more interested in storytelling. Also, there is one thing I am very thankful for. To have come from a long line of family that made it clear as mud THAT SELF PRAISE STINKS! And people can smell it from a mile away.Where I come from we always felt it was way better to let the people that you crossroads with in life talk about both you and your dogs. Reality is people will have much more respect for you. And will have little doubt about the truth, good or bad. When heard from that many different places. Oh well everyone has a different outlook. And I guess that's what makes the world go-round.

I dont really know much bout teachin bad habits anymore cuz I've changed so much that I dont create all the stupid ass problems that I did 10 years ago but there are two habits that I absolutely cannot tolerate in a dog.

The first one is this here. I cannot stand a dog that makes a loss and then mill asses around tryin to find that loss and get it goin again. Look dumbass you made a loss, the track is obviously not here so get your ass goin somewhere to where the damn track actually is.

My second habit that I cannot stand in a dog is when one makes a loss and then he does good an realized that the track aint there but when he goes to where he thinks the track is, he is wrong as many times as he is right. I dont mind a young dog guessin wrong but damnit when they get to be 4 or 5 they best startin now how a critter travels and where its goin without always havin to be smellin it.
