Help me understand Montana?

Is this what you saw back in the day or is this still the theme song of $fw today?

Some of SFW’s fundraising efforts concern me — especially those taking advantage of hunters’ mythical fears that the main reason for the decline in big-game herds, such as mule deer, is predation. Damn the biology or the fact that the reasons deer herds are down are far more complex. Advocating killing wolves, coyotes, cougars and bears to save deer, elk and other big game is a great way to raise funds and gain members. No matter that wiping out predators is ecologically questionable and, except in a few specific units, not particularly effective.

Remember when we had lots of lions and lots of deer? I do. There is just not enough meat to go around anymore. Hmmm> I wonder what might have changed in the last few years to cause the hoofed game to disappear. Gosh they tell us the moose have contracted a nasty parasite. Yeah, it's called " Canis Lupis" Most of the moose I see these days are smaller, much smaller. If you look close they resemble a Wolf turd.

You got that right Phil. I am a member of MSFW because they seem to be the only ones doing anything. I personally know a lot of the members that run it and they are all for killing wolves. Every one of them! Some of the members are guys that experienced wolves first hand when they "came" to nine mile back in 1989. I was just talking to Jim who lived up nine mile when they came in. He has some good insight. Its amazing what these animals are capable of. UTAH has no idea! Pretty sad the area I hunt lions use to have a healthy herd of about 80-100 head of elk. I saw 4 head in December, last I saw them there was 3. I see dead deer all the time and its not lion kills. I find a carcass from the night before and there is nothing left but spine, fur, head, and piles of wolf scat with bone in it and blood where they sat and dined. Phil do you support any groups? and if you do why do you? thanks.

BigBlue , Ya I have to admit SFW did a good job fighting the battle on the wolves . BUT you go to their meeting and all they talk about is getting ride of predators . That does not exclude the Lion . I was a member but I have not renewed my membershp because I can see it comming . Their not going to fight the battle to keep the lion around ,because its a predator .Even thow its classified as a trophy animal in Montana . FWP treated the Lion poorly this year with their high Quote .I talked to one of the FWP officers this season and told him what I thought about what they were doing . he told me since the wolves moved in they were going to balance it out by killing more lions , to try to bring balance back in the Elk and deer populations . Maybe theirs two different subjects here , but what I'm trying to get at is SFW Will stand behind FWP on the way to killing the Lion off. Thats why I don't belong to them anymore. ( You are right about some of the being a great bunch of guys though).

I agree with you 100%. But I think that the more houndsmen that are involved with Montana SFW the more they will hear us out and understand our concerns. I have talked to a few MT SFW members that wanna kill every predator out their and are just plain fed up with everything. But not every member is like this. Its up to us to be active with other sportsmen and help educate them about these issues. They are just uneducated and upset about the ungulates being dominated by our predators (WOLVES AND FWP). If I knew of a better group to join I would. I just feel my opinion is better heard speaking to friends of mine that are MT SFW members.

You guys need to form a strong houndsmen organization and stand up for yourself! Guaranteed its the only way to go!! You have to get a rep thats not scared to go before the state with back houndsmen in agreement and tell them your concerns and believes or the deer and elk hunters will walk all over you with there numbers!! Even tho you feel its a loosing battle sooner or later you will gain what seems to be a mile but actually it was 1 foot outa 5280 but 1 foot in the door then you can gain more!

Will they be in Helena on Wednesday to testify in support of SB 397 ?

Did the "m$fw" show and if so what was the stance they took?

I have an odd feeling it sounded like kill all predators.
