Its a touchy situation. Here in Nevada we have approx. 5 1/2 months of the year where other big game hunts are open with lion season. Deer, Elk, Antelope, Desert, Rocky mtn, California bighorn sheep, and Mtn. goat seasons. Some of these tag holders have waited 20 plus years to get these tags. I feel its just best to stay out of their way and hunt out on the edges where the hunting may not be the best but you have a lot less chance of a conflict. I'm sure if someone's dogs trail thru an elk hunters stalk on the last day of the hunt there will be some harsh words at best.

D, I was referring to the references you made to road hunters. Not too sure about you but I too use the road systems to find tracks so does that make me one of those idiot,drunken road hunters? Not trying to be an ass but you all are worried about conflict? Well that's a great way to start one. There are a fair amount of disabled folks that use our road systems that would take great offense to your comments, not to mention dads with real young children that are not able to be out in the brush. Just thought I would bring that to attention. I know it seems petty but as it has been said, if we hope to gain more privlages we really need to watch EVERYTHING we say in order to avoid conflict. It is their right to use the roads to hunt from what right do we have to bash them for using that particular method? Now I understand our concerns with the road hunters hitting our dogs. I almost had my whole pack wiped out by anotherhoundsmen that was driving like a crazy man. It is frustrating to say the least but also can be avoided. I now find nasty roads that only permit 5 MPH driving. That doesn't totally eliminate the risk but narrows it considerably. D, please don't take offense to my post but I don't think a lot of us understand how many folks, who don't have hounds read stories on this site. Have a good one.

OK you are right, I will try to refrain from passing my opinion on road hunters. I guess the more able bodied people that road hunt the less competion there is out in the brush. I have seen hunters standing in truck beds driving down the roads guns at ready to shoot. My property borders forest service and a 1/4 mile from my house is a forest service intersection where road hunters frequently gather in the afternoon and proceed to get intoxicated. So that is why I come up with a description of idiot drunk road hunters. I should add that not all road hunters that I know are drunks or idiots.

I can see your resentment. I empathizewith it. It is unfortunate that a small few ruin things for us all. I got a gut full when one of our own hounds men got our bear pursuit shut down. I hear there was more to it than I realize still its frustrating. I know its way off subject but maybe someone can explain why this individual felt it necessary to tear apart what so many had worked so hard to accomplish? I heard there was something to do with lions in it?

I'd ask Tim Ravndal why he did that. I would like to think that a man who WAS trusted to be on the board of MSHA would have backed the play of the majority of his fellow houndsman but I guess he knew better than everyone who had put so much effort into starting a bear chase season in MT. He is no longer on the board and we have a great group of hard hunting houndsman on the board who will surely try again in the next legislative session if there is still a majority call for it. We need to work harder at being on the same page cuz the people who want to shut us down sure as hell are united.

Wouldn't want some nut shooting up your dogs just because they scared off his deer.
