Al,never even gave cody a thought. Mike - well said. This post is about being open minded, and realizing sometimes more things are possible than what we personally experience. This post is not about me, many of you have more experience, better dogs, and probably would be disappointed if I took you out for a hunt, just as I am a lot of the times. I expect to catch cat every day hunting, I don't! Should I ? Yes! Do I think its possible with the right knowledge and dogs, yes. What I'm saying is why would we just chalk some many of the variables up to- that's just the way it is. Sorry I know better, that's my point-- looking outside the box.

Has anyone thought of having a cat hunt for say"The West Coast Champion Bobcat Hound" ? It could be done something like the competition coon hunts with 3 or 4 dogs hunting against each other until you get down to the best hound.I think it could be a great and fun hunt!

Sounds fun if a guy doesn't mind mixing dogs. I've don it a handful of times in the past few years, usually end up regretting it for one reason or another. The state hunt is still going on through ousda. Be tough to do it like a coon hunt, don't ya think? Or what kinda ideas u got, Robin?

A competition style hunt with judge and scorecard that is fair and equal seems to me to be the way to go.The dogs would have to go head to head to see who is best.I've won the state hunt in the past and JC Freeman and i also placed third once.I don't think that proved i had the best cat dog.The same is true when you catch lots of cats.It proves you have good dogs but not the best cat dog.Some could also catch cats by other methods and claim they caught them with their dogs.For the title"Best Cat Dog " to meen anything it has to be as fair and equal to each dog and handler as we can make it .Perhaps others have some ideas.

Robin I agree, weigh in hunts proven absolutely nothing about who owns the best cat hounds. I have been as guilty as anyone of killing cats to win those type hunts. Recall very well have a long race, putting a small female in a covert, shooting that cat because I was in a club hunt. Won that hunt, & it made me high point winner of clubs yearly trophy. That was the last of those hunts I entered. Guess, maturity set in? Cleaned out a closet last winter & tossed bunch of those in dump. A friend ask me the other day what riding alone on a cat hunt, without being able to bring a yardstick for judging the quality of the other hunters dogs could possible prove? I feel he had a very good question & had ask myself the same question. Al

Must say, can/t blame anyone for not entering their hound in a scorecard, must realize, some apt to draw out with dogs that are not real broke. Most in this area do not break dogs to stand that type pressure. However, still believe that would be the best way to determine who had the better dog that day& the next time someone else might prove to have the better dog. Don/t know where you would fine suitable ground here to call those hounds, but all would have the same challenge. Al
