Re: Multiple species hound
I seen a coyote turn on a hound in the middle of the day in a field. The dog was about 25 yards behind and the coyote stopped, rushed the dog and rolled em right over. The dog got er back together and bayed em up in a fence line a short distance later. I've seen other hounds also that had a hard time holding a coyote by themselves especially big male yotes. Usually they just run and get caught or shot but once in awhile we find an ornery one too. Usually we get 35 to 50 a winter mainly hunting weekends and i would say 1 or 2 have attitudes on average a year. We've had a lot of snow this winter, found 2 fawns that lone male coyotes killed and one fawn that was killed by a pair. Thats only what we found and thats not counting the wolves.

As of Sunday I've caught 88 coyotes this winter and out of that many I've only had a few that turned on the dogs during the day but it does happen. Last year I got to see a really cool one run from this dog and then crouch down like a collie and when the hound got near it would lurch at it and roll it and then take off running. Then I sent the big dogs and he lurched when he should have kicked it in gear. Not smart.

I'm not sure which is more embarrasing. Having your coondog quit the tree and come back to you and your buddy halfway to him through the briars or dumping 6 coyote hounds after the siren locate and they come running back to the truck and half of them try and load up.

Bwahahahaha! Both are horrible and yes I've been there. I remember one night having the absolute best coyote dog I have ever seen in my life hiding under the damn truck while 4 of my other dogs who were descent but nowhere near in his category running the hell out of one off to the southwest bout 3/4 of a mile while another one of my dogs was running straight west of me just a lil over a 1/4 of a mile. Old Scratch was under the truck lookin like he'd just seen a damn ghost or something. I'm sat there thinkin how many damn times have you got away from them other dogs in your life boy and run the feet right off one all by yourself and now you under that truck shakin like a faggot at a weiny roast. All I could do was laugh and
