Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Sunday that the Sunni militants taking over Iraq have quickly gained power because the United States armed their allies in Syria.

“I think we have to understand first how we got here,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” "I think one of the reasons why ISIS has been emboldened is because we have been arming their allies. We have been allied with ISIS in Syria."

Paul was asked whether the U.S. should shift its focus to Syria.

"We have been fighting alongside al Qaeda, fighting alongside ISIS," he said. "ISIS is now emboldened and in two countries. But here's the anomaly. We're with ISIS in Syria. We're on the same side of the war. So, those who want to get involved to stop ISIS in Iraq are allied with ISIS in Syria. That is real contradiction to this whole policy."

It got a lot of attention this morning when I tweeted, “You’re Eight Times More Likely to be Killed by a Police Officer than a Terrorist.” It’s been quickly retweeted dozens of times, indicating that the idea is interesting to many people. So let’s discuss it in more than 140 characters.

In case it needs saying: Police officers are unlike terrorists in almost all respects. Crucially, the goal of the former, in their vastest majority, is to have a stable, peaceful, safe, law-abiding society, which is a goal we all share. The goal of the latter is … well, it’s complicated. I’ve cited my favorite expert on that, Audrey Kurth Cronin, here and here and here. Needless to say, the goal of terrorists is not that peaceful, safe, stable society.

I picked up the statistic from a blog post called: “Fear of Terror Makes People Stupid,” which in turn cites the National Safety Council for this and lots of other numbers reflecting likelihoods of dying from various causes. So dispute the number(s) with them, if you care to.

Guys I want each side of this to think just a little bit. I'm not picking a side and want that clear.
Whether Jews or Christians or Russian peasants or the upper crust of Europe died during WW II makes very little difference to our generations or future generations. The part that can't be denied is a lot of people died and suffered. This little fact is hard to deny unless you assume that american soldiers went on lifetime vacations somewhere no one can locate by the tens of thousands. That many areas of our world where bombed so badly its still obvious today. That our soldiers who made it back were so stupid they couldn't be depended on to tell the difference between human corpses and turnips and horrorible depravities and a stroll through a tulip field.
This brings me to my first point regardless of what happened or what caused it . It was bad and made worse by people unthinkingly following their respective leaders blindly . No real thought of their own.
Second very few single countries pose any threat to the USA. No group should pose a threat to our country either. The one fatal exception to this is our govt. Is not doing its job of providing for the best interest of the american people. Or worse leaving the door open for these people or even working with them against our interest (treason).
So if you have fears or uncertainties or just extra time to wonder why our country is changing you might consider if history matters past a opportunity to learn about the many faults and strengths of human character. But most importantly if our govt. Operated as it did in the past or better yet as written by our founding fathers . Would there be any real threat to our nation?
If there is a threat to any portion of our nation you should realize it can only really succeed with complacency or help from within. So instead of looking for shadows from outside find the wholes from within. Don't bother yourself with naming or grouping them past the point they are either helping the nation or hurting it.
Its like this it makes no difference if its fleas or ticks tapeworms or whipworms, frostbite or heatstroke weakening your hound. You are the one at fault for not protecting the dog from these threats so it can perform . And finally before you ever consider listening to anyone else much less quoting them realize everyone is limited and swayed in many ways . The founding fathers realized that its very rare for someone to have the ability to not only perceive truth and righteousness but act on it unfailingly. Thus they devised a system of checks and balances. Unfortunately. My OPINION is its gotten completely twisted out of service to the people into service for the few. And I could give a rats ass how they are identified or worship! Only so much as they threaten me and mine and our country..

the growth of islam bothers me very little. they are just people and they die just like the rest of us and as such aren't all that threatening. it's when you get governments that can't be reined in and add financial institutions to the mix that things get completely out of hand. then your correct most Americans don't look very deep if at all, at the real cause of our troubles. if you do it might be to watch some news or internet search maybe a radio station on the way home. but how many of us have looked deeper or really tried to dig up the truth? and who is really providing you with this news? i will tell you from several personal experiences that not only do they twist or omit certain uncomfortable facts they are just as likely to flat out lie or fabricate to suite their purposes.
i don't have a solution to the many problems our nation is facing other then a bit of insight. whatever the debate may look like on the surface if you can dig enough there's going to be a struggle for money and power. it comes back to the one rotten apple theory . we didn't get rid of them when we could have just sorted through them and chunked the rotten ones. now we really have to pour out the whole lot and start over. and believe me that won't happen with out them fighting back with all the many resources we have given them or they have skimmed off over the years..
if you still believe its just a matter of being vocal or voting, think this through thoroughly. if you ran into a corrupt sheriff or judge what chance do you think you would have of actually getting the truth out there and making a difference by getting them replaced? what about these areas that for special reasons are very lucrative to sheriffs departments or other govt, agencies and have enough population that no one is likely to really see most of whats going on? you think your going to get a senator, congressman or supreme court judge held accountable? it all sounds very noble, but the truth is they have years on us closing doors and plugging holes to cover their ass.
the rules and laws are only useful if they are understood and applied as they are meant to be. but that time has passed for most of our nation and the only real justice you can expect is if it's accidental. i know there's govt. employees on here and some law enforcement. they will say oh thats not true we try our best and risk our lives everyday to protect the law abiding citizens of this country. to that all i say is one illegal act by a sworn officer is more damaging to our nation then a full crime spree by your average citizen. and the first thing you have to realize is your not a clerk and any mistakes you make aren't acceptable and secondly you have to police yourselves and the system first. if a govt. employee or elected official feels the job is to demanding or striving for perfection is unreasonable they really aren't cut out for the job. just like us voters who are shown a case where a govt. employee or official has committed a crime and we say" oh, you know it was just one thing or it might happen to me" and we do nothing or very little. we have let ourselves and our country down. if someone is caught doing something illegal or against our nation in these positions it is far more likely they are repeat offenders then a first time threat. seriously would you wait until you knew you were being watched and had more to loose before you started committing these acts ? or more likely it's a lifetime full of learning that gives them the confidence to continue under the supposed public eye?
