didn't get word from varminator all night. he went overt?? he probably treed two or three and don't want to make ringer feel bad.?? we went over his game plan before he went and it sounded solid so he may be too busy going to trees to relay his progress...orrrr,,, he got hung up at the tavern waiting on his whitness..its all still a big mystery and as soon as the P.I. figures it out we will known more..

Sam trailed for 15-20 minutes last nite jumped and ran for 35 minutes and treed. Brad and his witness got in there and could get a glimpse of eyes every once in awhile but they couldnt ever confirm it was a cat, so no score. They didnt get anything going this morning and are headed out again this evening.

Sounds like there are some guys on the site that can't take much criticism. One guy calls out the bad points in the competition, because its not perfect. Which it will never be perfect. Some egos cant let it go. Looking back on the competition, the regular hounds did just as well as the crossed hounds. That includes hounds that weren't ever even hunted on the west side until they showed up over there and treed cats. Think about that. You poor west side/coastal hound hunters have it so hard. I hope you guys have fun rattling your mouth and making each other feel like you have great hounds, or running dogs or whatever you want to call those things. JC great job with the hunt. You tried your best. Its a tough deal to set up and put up with but everyone has their views on it and nothing will ever be perfect. One would have to hunt head to head to see which dogs are the best. One week to the next, the playing field, cat movement, weather, and whatever it might be will just not be the same. It has to be a head to head, dog against dog to see who is better. Just my opinion as an outsider looking in and as someone who enjoys hounds.

Well, I for one am glad to see the hecklers club is back on track. Glad I can offer my carcass to the kings of sincerity. I will help in whatever way I can if there is another contest. It'll be good for advertising and promotion for next years crop.

all in fun. I don't think this was about the best dog at all. it was about rolling the dice and hoping everything came together on your week end. and a opportunity to run your dog in a new neck of the woods. we seen some danm good dog work all around and some top shelf people also. as far as the sideline drama,,,lets just say shit happens and move forward as I think it was settled and all points taken. jc stated in the beginning that any dog could take home the prize and he honestly meant it.as far as a heads up comp like the coon hunts, me and brad talked of it for years but we couldn't come up with a way to honestly judge each dog in the hunt. as in that was my dog that picked up the loose not yours and so on. this was before the garmin and someone may be able to work the kinks out nowadays. it sure would be interesting to try.

Old Dog you are right on it is just in fun. There are a lot of good dogs out there that can tree a bobcat in any place. It is a roll of the dice as far as weather, cats moving and conditions. It would be nice to see the different styles of dog and handlers work. Just as the night hunts for coon I don't see a way to set a hunt up that would prove one dog better than the other. You have to give the guys that put it on credit for the time and energy to make it happen. Dewey

have no first hand experience but have heard for years that the coon hunts don't always show the best dog but often shows the best handler? there is enough young people here that have the energy to make it work with the new gadgets we have today I think. with a big screen and the bark option it may have a chance of working. but then it would come down to defining the "best cat dog". for years I have treed cats with track dogs it just took longer. until I seen the dogs on the ore coast , I had no idea a cat could be treed in minutes. that was the moment that I classified my dogs down a few notches but I still remember them long trail jobs and grinding down a running cat with fondness. to each his own
