Went this morning, struck a real cold one, but didn't get him jumped. Very hot in our country(S.W. Florida). Doesn't seem like much to report, but I celebrated my 76th in the woods, just me and six, not so good hounds. I thank God for letting me continue to enjoy what has been a part of my life for many years. I was encouraged by the words Donald Trump had to say, today, when he announced that his running mate would be Governer Mike Pence. I feel that they are going to try to turn our country around. In my oplnlon they are the only choice we have. Hope every one has good hunting.

Had a good race Thursday after the rain, not sure what it was. I didn't get a look at it or any tracks. I believe we had a little too much rain, they had a little water problem. In fact the race ended in a cutover with about 6in to a foot of water. A south louisiana low spot.

Turned Babe [3 1/2 y o cur] and Sioux [10 mo o lion hound stock] on a track last week. They logged over 6 miles on the garmin with only one let down about half way. They were running good, then, all of a sudden, they shut up and the garmin showed them circling back to me. Babe is a good locator and tree dog. I do not know what happened but we are over run with coyotes and Babe has been burned pretty good for running them. I didn't hear the coyotes but I guess that they came in on the dogs. Isn't that excuse #41 for when your dogs fail to produce. lol

Just a heads up. I doubt coyotes will be a problem for awhile but at about 18-24 months her confidence and heritage may encourage her to fight them given a chance. Seems to happen after I think most of the training woes are behind us.

In this case it doesn't make any difference but these are not the 30 to 40 pound, relatively pure blood, western coyotes but are a mixture of coyote, coy-dog and red wolf. The red wolf is a pet project of the NC Wildlife Dept. 60 pound coyotes are not rare.
