He might borderpond, give him a call and ask him ha! A little sarcasm there as you probably know. I figure my days in hounds are getting limited and any pups I ever hunt or invest time in will come out of proven dogs, and that's the dogs I have in my backyard already. I suppose if a guy was young and just getting started, he could try one of these and try one of those until he found what he liked, but at my age in the game I better not waste my time on something that might work out for me.
I've found that pups out of my dogs, pups that are raised in my back yard, pack very well and make pretty damn good hounds. I have four hounds in my yard that are two through four years old that have never ran down a drag or fired on a caged coon, rather they had to learn with their parents on the way down a track. It may sound lazy but it has worked for me, and you know what they say, "if it ain't broken don't try and fix it!"

Well, Ike, perhaps that is Mr. Cameron's attitude-----"If it ain't broke, don't fix it". He seems to be selling his product without blowing a lot of "hot air". You know, the free enterprise system usually determines a fair market value and weeds out inferiority----and he has been in the business a long time. Perhaps his longevity tells us something about his product??
How can they be considered "too high" if they are selling? Probably more than you and I want to pay, but that is certainly no reason for him to lower his prices.
I don't know Mr. Cameron and never had ANY dealings with him. I have hunted with a couple of his line of hounds and they seemed to be O.K.
I do note that neither yourself or any of the other posters attacked him personally nor were critical of the merits of his dogs.
JUST IN FUN and to present the "other side of the story" (which I do believe).

I've only been around one Cameron bluetick, and never looked at the papers to verify what bloodline it carried. A good buddy of mine had the dog given to him by a plott man and that dog wouldn't go hunt with our dogs, so he gave it away to another friend and paid $3000 bucks for a two and a half year old redbone out of my dogs--a dog that would rig a bobcat or lion as hard as it rigs it a bear. I ask him just the other day what ever became of that blue dog and he told me it attacked it's owner and bit him, then ate a bullet in return............
And Del Cameron is always welcome to come down and bring along a couple of his best dogs and hunt in the dirt with me and show me how sorry my hounds are...........
keep'em treed,

cant say his dogs r any better than urs ike.. cause i never seen em go.. what r u out to prove exactly?
there is a reason why they sell for that, and with a waiting list..
..it aint cause hes on the computer bragging em up and stroking his ego all the time
.
can see why ur acting greeneyed, must be nice making a good buck on pups and not having to try and peddle the same old videos on the computer constantly
i doubt del cameron is too worried about proving anything to u, he proved himself when u were still crapping diapers.
doubt theres anyone on here that would turn down that kind of $ for a pup..
dont know why i even wasted my time writing this.. u'll still keep saying stupid stuff no matter what
just remember that ur already a legend on the computer

is a pup worth 1000 ! 1200 !
sometimes-
i dont know anything about cameron hounds- im not talking bout cameron hounds
would have to be a choice pup out of a proven cross for me to consider it -
my buddy had a walker pup out of lipper and cedar hill sass--
first real cold trailing walker id seen-- i had some dogs at the time that could tree a bear---if they could get one jumped-
she could run on a track they couldnt wag a tail on
he bought another pup same cross- had some troubles and i gave him 500 for that pup
this was 20 years ago-
worth every penny -
mine got killed by a bear toward the end of first season- but she would cold trail like an old dog , strike off truck , run and tree an easy bear alone her first season
- ive compared every pup ive had to her since- very few measure up -
sass was sold and bred to another male-- i bought 4 pups and split them up among my friends-
cost 1200 for 4
all culls-
bought 2 started out of lipper-1200
both culls-
shortly after this
mr brademyer bought sass and bred to lipper and was asking 1000 for a female pup
i thought he was crazy lol
seems some of these dogs were winning big in the coonhunts and the demand was there -
i sold 2 dogs that year to japan for good money and could have paid the 1000 ---always regretted that i was too cheap to do it -
hell , i thought id be scared to turn a 1000$ pup loose -
in 20 years ive had some pretty decent pups , only a handful id compare to those sass x lipper pups -
the moral of the story is--- price you pay for a pup is absolutely nothing 5 years down the road-
if pup turns out, its money well spent-- buy the best pups you can -the best pups available may be free- free is my favorite price too-
if it takes 1200 to get what you want , do it
I see guys riding around in $30000 pickups with a 1200 $ dog box
got gps , telemetry , shock collars - laptops , best clothes , best guns , best snowmobiles, fancy kennels at home , you name it- could buy a house for what they got in their dog rig and equipment
the only thing that really counts is the quality of dog, or dogs riding in that dog box-
price of that dog is a pretty small investment compared to everything else-

Don' know why you're wasting your time either curby, cause I woudn't have one of his hounds in my yard if he gave it to me for free, drove it down here and brought free puppy chow with it to boot! And if you doubt that then try me!
And I could give a damn whether Del Cameron wants to prove anything to me or not curby, he had a chance to prove that when he wrote that book and missed the opportunity. What I came away with from the book was: he hunted in deep snow alot if not always; his clients never had a name; he blew up his hounds more than anybody I ever met; he went south to hunt with the legends to somehow associate his name with theirs and couldn't find anything to run in Utah but a piss drag; and he complained alot in later years cause the young kids came in and took over his hunting holes........
I'm done arguing about cameron with you or anybody else, if he thinks his hounds are great then that's great! But ol' Ike will stick with what he has and be as happy as a kid a Christmas..........
