Well Steve, it looks similar to a Grand bleu but the chassis is fundamentally flawed.
The hind quarters are weakly constructed and look very loose, probably has a sway when in motion.Tail a little too low set.Although the shoulders look well muscled, the elbows are too obtruse – probably the reason why the dogs weight is centred over the pads rather than evenly spread over the toes too.The head is nice and large but the neck is too short so this chap is going to strain keeping his nose to the ground for many hours.Good ears, correct twist, set well low.
If it were my dog, I wouldn’t breed with him.

THATS A GOOD EYE YOU HAVE, I HAVE HUNTED THE BIG BLUES FOR YEARS (ALMOST 20) AND EVEN I MISSED THE TAIL HAD TO GO BACK AND LOOK. WE NEED YOU AS AN INSPECTOR FOR THE AMERICAN BLUE GASCON HOUND ASSOCIATION.

Not only does African have an eye for hounds, but he thinks like a cat. The lions out here would be in big trouble in a very short time if he decided to hunt them. We as American breeders should review how the French houndsmen breed. The best French breeders have a extra fine program. They have been breeding hounds for a lot longer than we Americans.

The Gascons are turning 1 year old. I will get pics this weekend. I thought I would write a little about them first. Since there is no open season in CO right now, I am a little hamstrung for game. I've been laying some pretty tough trails for them and have seen way above average results. Not only do they have a very fine nose, but the way they work as a pack, allows them to pick up a tough loss in short order. They can wind scent from an incredible distance. Last night we were out back getting some exersize, when I spotted a barn cat making it's way back to my place through the sage brush. This cat had been out hunting on it's own. There was only the slightest trace of a breeze and they winded it and struck at 400 yds. In no time at all they were on trail and in less time than that, they were treed. To answer alot of people, yes they tree and pretty well at that. I think the trick is to start them treeing in short trees first. Once they figured out that the cat goes up the tree, the rest came naturally. With the quality of nose they have, I would say they will be some awesome locators in tall, thick trees. They have a natural tolerance to the heat and do very well trailing in hot dry conditions. At this point they are doing better than I imagined, I am impressed. They are very easy to disipline and get along with.

Sounds like you're doing great with them! I can't wait to see pictures of them. They sound like ideal hounds. I'm excited to get involved with this breed. After all I've read here and all I've read on other French houndsmens websites, I'm sold.
