The crew I hunt with went over into Pocahontas Co. for the early season. Tree a few small ones (about 110-120#) Ran into one of the DNR wardens. He ask us if we had treed anything. Told him we'd treed a few 100#ers but left them to run again and get bigger. He said they were legal and needed to be killed. Said that they had to deal with so many bear complaints and they was tired of it. He said the DNR was thinking of lowering the weight limit, he didn't say to what. He said you bear hunters need to start killing more of these bear.
Personally I don't like killing baby deer, baby turkeys, and certainly not baby bear.
I know here in VA. we went for years with few bear and once the population got up to where you could find some bear to run the VDGIF wants to get rid of them. Told us the same thing, that we needed to kill more of them. I guess we didn't kill enough, so they are wanting to open the season up so the deer hunters can do it.

I got a question? How come there is no site info on all these hunting forums....please correct me if I am wrong, but do y'all actually have a website cause it sure is hard to find!!! I feel like everything is hush hush here in our great state till something major happens, then we get solicited to help! What "Exactaly" will my 20.00 go for if I am allowed to join???

As far as what you get for 20.00 dues,the same thing we got when it was 10.00.One meeeting a year,if you're lucky one news letter a year,and you can go to the picnic thats is usually in the south central part of the state every year. Oh there is the bear event every spring,but ya dont have to be a member to go to that.

They will not get 20 bucks from me ,besides the hardtimes this country is facing I can see no justifaction for 20 dues.WVBA have no club house no land basicaly no operating overhead.The bear event makes GOOD money every spring. So seems to me someone is or wanting to waste some money

beardog0572,can you get me a copy of that letter your uncle got or at least find out who was behind this little bear idea? It would be helpful when we get the WV Sportsmen Asso going here in a few weeks.

IT was said at the meeting that the law will be changed to 75#,pretty much end of discussion.Said it costs the DNR to much to for court costs when they arrest someone with a 75+ # bear.

When or if it happens every single bear moving in the woods will be shot and then some that probably ain't by theirselves . I guess the DNR are wanting us to wipe out the bear population and when this happens they'll probably try raising our bear damage stamps to cover the cost of not selling as many due to the lack of bear. Wouldn't surprise me . But the DNR are looking for numbers they say there is to many bear complaints and they need to be killed. But like you, I heard it was going to be 75 lbs live weight , 50 field dressed

what kind of hunter kills a 75 puonder to start with if you 've been hunting more than a year or 2 ought knough the diference in a100 or 75 pounder its sad what there doing to the bear in this state and the WVBA just ageries with a smile they say its the bear are over populated but i cant walk out my back door see one can any of you
