Yea, this dog came from a buddy who hunts plott dogs over in Colorado. He seems to know Joe and has been back east to hunt with him and swapped dogs. Maverick came from a Weems/Shamrock on top and a Shamrock top and bottom on the damn side. My buddy made the cross and sent one male out to Joe Hudson to hunt, one to me and kept the female for himself. Maverick did well in his second year and I hope that he shines on bears this year. He is a really great handling dog, not ill at all but will sure put the teeth to a bear if the opportunity presents itself; he's also a solid tree dog............

keep'em treed and post up photos as things get rolling later in the year,

I would be willing to say you got him from Maynard.
The Shamrock dogs come from Joe and Nancy Hudson in Carney MI. They have one of the best pack of bear dogs, I have ever seen. Shamrock dogs, however do come with a lot of grit and usually some vet bills, but they will flat out fight a bear! Trust me, if they dont pull hair they dont stay at Joes very long.

Just a little info and background on the dog. Food for thought if you will.

Yes Shane, I got that Maverick plott dog from Maynard a couple years back after he'd came over to hunt bears with me. Maynard is about as nice a guy as you'll met in the hound world and is pretty much a plott man. I ask him why and he responded that most of his friends have plotts and it seemed easier to go that way; I suppose he really likes that breed as well.

We camped and split dogs down the bear tracks for most of a week and had a lot of fun, which is something I seldom do anymore for lots of reasons. But Maynard's dogs were well behaved and we didn't have any problems.

Maynard did tell me he had alot of plott buddies call him after he returned from hunting with me asking about my dogs, and I suppose that all came about because of these boards.........

Ike,

I have never met Maynard, however Joe and Nancy have always talked very highly of him and his dogs. I sure enjoy hunting with Joe and Nancy. They are two of the hardest hunting fun to be around people I have ever met. I tend to tease them about their "His and Hers" NPHA Big Game Hunter of the Year Awards. Truely great people.

I am currently in Alaska, working(fly fishing really) and should be here all summer and then headed to MI for bear season. I live in Nevada though. Maybe this winter we can hook up and go CHASE a lion or something.

Take care,

Shane

It sounds like Joe and Nancy are good people for sure, and fall bear hunt should be fun for you as well. Yea, I'll be around running dogs on something just give me a shout when you get back to Nevada--and don't catch too many fish ha!
