I knew a guy in Mountain Home Idaho who was breeding Thoroughbred mares to Shire stallions and getting a warmblooded colt...Then, he would take those cross fillies and breed them to a mammoth jack...He got some damn nice mules. They were 16+ hands and built just right...not too stout and yet big enough to handle life and wear. I didn't own one myself but soon enough you can bet I'll be making similar crosses for what is in my opinion the ultimate cat hunting machine...mules.

I had a client this last week that killed her horse with bleach. She said it had a 16 penny nail in the hoof so she pulled it out. She said the horse seemed fine but she was worried about the hole getting thrush so she filled it with pure bleach three times a day. The horse got worse and she didn't know what happend so she called the vet and me out to take a look at it. The liver and kidneys were shot so the vet had to put it down. HERE IS YOUR SIGN lady!

Don't know about chlorine bleach thru the foot not good. Ichamold Balck Salve packed in with a Bolo or easy boot will take care of this problem and I cut it out and fire it with turpentine crystals if need be, but be careful doing this you can burn a horse or yourself. That horse was sick cuz the foot is a long ways from the heart.
I had an old calf roper friend of mine sit down next to be at a grill and bar one day and order up a Bud. and a short water glass to drink it out of. A loto f them old guys did this? I knew he was a hand and had been all over the mountains I mean rough stuff up to 13,000 feet. He was a top hand and a horse breeder of record. He knowing I was a lion hunter asked me. Leonard what strain of nag you running up and down them hills chasing them dogs? I said. well Earl, most of my horses are old foundation bred cow horse stock. He looked over at me and gave me a sort of go to hell look and said. What the hell does that mean? I said well , Leo , King, Poco Beuno, Sugar Bars. Poooft! Damn near blew his beer over the counter. Sugar Bars? Yep , are you kidding me? No , sir she is the own Granddaughter of Sugar Bars. Well he said Mr. them horses are tops for cattle and arena work and damn fast and smart but they got too much T-bred in them for the mountains. They don't know when to quit and they will blow their heart out for a dumb ass cowboy out ther in the hills.
Get yourself a damn donkey and leave them good horses at home.
I guess good advice, and they will give their all just don't ask for it all at one time. For the idiots that do I reckon sombody has to bait them bears. LOL!

Don't you mean Iodine crystals and turpentine? If so Where are you still getting Iodine Crystals? The Vets can't even get them anymore.
Purple Smoke

Them where the good ole days.

I still used some from a 20 year old stash. Morgan horse who had jammed a rod up inside his foot years ago left with a large hole in his foot for 20 years or so....we were getting down to the dregs when the horse died of old age....whew.
if I understand it is a banned substance because of it's use in the drug trade.

Right on guys sorry I didnh't explain it correctly Iodite Crystals and Turp.Blue smoke for sure. I have an old stash in a gallon paint can, and it doesn't take much.
The last time I tried to buy any and that was a long time ago you had to sign in a book and give soc. sec. number and all. I said forget it, knowing I still had enough if I was careful.
A lot of old time packers and such carried it with them all the time. Get a stone bruide and it was sort of likea temp. patch kit for a flat tire.

They make that crap out of some crazy stuff. The vet that i work side by side with got vandalized last week. Some meth maker broke into the clinique and stole 8 viles of euthinization drugs to put down horses. The sheriff thinks they are going to make meth out of it. Thats just stupid and crazy, it's like these people want to die

Here is a good cross for the mountians Pryor Mountian Mustang cross QH. Little hard to get started but tough as nails. They are usually buckskin or grulla in color, big hard black feet, long thick mane and tail. They travel at medium speed between walking horses and quarter horses.
