HUNTIN ALONE;

Re: HUNTIN ALONE;
Ain't that the truth, cause I seldom run into a houndsman around here that doesn't have a buddy in the truck and two or three packs of hounds. Seldom do I have a ride along because they always impact what and how I do things--if a guy isn't into it because of the link between him and his hounds, and needs a buddy before he loads them, then that person likes the social part more than the meat and potatos of this thing.........

Re: HUNTIN ALONE;
For you guys that have this unit, if you go on-line with it, will the unit give a real time marking of where you are located at all times ? or do you always need to push the bottom to save your track ?
Just curious because I wonder if this unit can be rigged to a dogs collar and give you a true GPS reading of your dog without any interferance at all times ? this with a lap top in the truck, or if you lose your dog and have to get, you can fine where the dogs bedding down etc...

I'll have to respectfully disagree. I love to hunt and will and do hunt alone at times if I have too, BUT that said, I prefer to have a partner. Someone to watch your back, to may things can happen when hunting. This is what I tell my boys, so I better practice what I preach.
Hunting and the Outdoors are different to everyone. People look for different experiances. For me Hunting is not all about killing (which is the meat and potatos of hunting) its about the whole experiance, and the pursuit, and most importantly the moment in time shared with my Family, Friends, and Dogs. Its being outside enjoys the great earth that God created for our enjoyment.

Re: HUNTIN ALONE;
Im sure you could do something like that, just like the Garmin DC30 collars, but the only thing is you would need cell service if you were using your laptop and had like an AT&T mobile broadband card for the laptop. If you dont then you would need to go home and find where the last signal was or where the signal is coming from and mark it down and hope when you go back up on the mountain that the dog is still there. Theoretically it would work though, unless you have to track your own pay by pushing a button the whole time.

Re: HUNTIN ALONE;
I hear ya Mike, loud and clear... probably why lions hunt alone most of the time.
Re: HUNTIN ALONE;
If I had to hunt or fish alone all the time, I'd get bored pretty fast. Likewise if I always had to be in a big group of people, i'd get pretty sick of that too.
I've had lots of good times with a handfull of buddies and hope to have a bunch more. With that said, you don't really know what you have unless it's out there on it's own once in awhile. It's also not much fun to be in a hunt without any dogs.
A good variety is the best way about it. A guy needs a reference for people to believe the crazy shit that happens out there. Besides, if a guy always hunted alone whos cooler would you steal beer out of.

Exactly !!! LOL
I have the Garmin Astro and DC30 collars, but they arent GPS collars they are FM Raido Frequency collars. I'd like to see a true GPS collar for dogs, that worked with a handheld unit (a handheld unit like the Garmin Astro). A true GPS would give you unlimited range, cover and terrain wouldnt matter. With a true GPS you could track your dog across the country if someone decided to pick them up.

Re: HUNTIN ALONE;
well i respect all of your guys's opinions on the matter
however i will have to disagree about the comment that your more likely a more serious hunter if you hunt alone..that dont make a whole lotta sense, to me at least
i've hunted by myself quite a few times and i think when a guy hunts with a buddy, or a small group of friends its much more enjoyable...
just my opinion and i respect all of yours dont get me wrong..

Re: HUNTIN ALONE;
by meat and potatos I was speaking about the mechanics of the sport not killing.......killing is killing and has little to do with hunting. I've hunted most of my life with a camera, without a tag in my pocket or gun on my shoulder and was still hunting! My point was if you have to have a hunting buddy to enjoy the outing then it's not the mechanics of the sport a person enjoys but the company and outing........Mt Goat wrote:Hunting and the Outdoors are different to everyone. Nothing wrong with hunting with family or friends plus it's a whole lot safer, but if I had to wait on those people to go hunt I'd never get to go.........

Re: HUNTIN ALONE;
I have to agree Ike, hunting alone most of the time shows what your dogs are made of day in day out. No excuses, no BS only the cold hard facts if you chose to except them.That being said I hunt alone 80 % of the time which makes hunting with friends all that much better. It is nice having a conversation about the days events and sharing it with friends.

Re: HUNTIN ALONE;
Mike L. My wife tells me that all the time. She says I can set in a room with a 100 people look like I'm there all by myself. Guessun Im just not a social butterfly. I hunt alone probally 95% of the time. Gives me time to talk to the Ole Lord and get the cobwebs cleared out.
