I have a bro living in the USA. A while back, he got quite sick, requiring extensive medical treatment including numerous surgeries.
The doc's at various hospitals were referring him to repeat CT scans, MRI scans and other tests that he's just had done at a different hospital! When it came time for surgery, the doc's were arguing as to who got to perform the surgeries, even if it wasn't their specialty.....hummmm.
Everbody wants some of the action and kick-back......kinda like walking into a car dealership and being greeted by 3 or more salesmen every 10 minutes......no pressure....
Further, he pays way, way more for the exact same medications than he would be paying here.
Now, he's finding it difficult to get med insurance in the US, [as he's COSTING the insurance comp. $$ now], even though he paid in for many years without ever making a claim.
A friend, also a Canadian emergency doc, is now working in Vegas.
When in Canada, and treating a pt @ 0300hrs in the ER, he knew that he had better have had a real good reason for putting out a referal call to a specialist Dr., waking him / her at that hour of the morning.
In the US, it was 180 deg opposite....he got CRAP for NOT putting the call out, even for a minor consulation! Everybody wants a piece...
Nope, Canadian ain't perfect, but I'll opt for things the way they are.
