The way I see it, if ya got bait sooner or later ya got bear and if ya got bear ya got scent and if ya got rig dogs all of the above will come together sooner or later, but I agree, ya DON'T turn loose on another hunters bait pile on purpose...... Mike

I don't have a dog in this fight and my opinion means nothing but, when I was in Maine acouple months ago I got a copy of the hunting regulations and I saw some things that interested me. The one that stood out the most to me was that it's illegal to "harvest" a bear over someone elses dogs. It also came to me that the "outfitters" pretty much have that states bear hunting all tyed up. I can't come to Maine being from out of state and run my dogs.

There are 2 ways you can run your dogs in Maine Hunter. You can hire a resident Maine Guide , he can take up to 3 out of state hunters at a time with dogs. The other way is to get your Maine Guide license. Then you can run dogs and take a bear yourself and you can also guide Maine residents with your dogs.I live 10 minutes from the Maine border in N.H. I got my Maine Guides license so I could run dogs there.
These were the laws a few years ago anyways. If they have changed in the past 3 or 4 years I stand corrected.

Hunter, Maine guides license is around $80 for 3 years.
Rich40s, I was in N.H. closer to Newfields and Shapleigh. Always just ran my own dogs and baited on my own too .Guided my hunters around the same area.Used to tag the bears in at Boonies. You know where that is ?

first of all if u r "ASKING" for more regulations u r f-ing crazy. thats the last thing we need. i bait and hound hunt. no one ever found my baits cause i put in the effort to get them were people wont find them. its public land and open season as much as i like to be alone when i hunt i know it just aint realistic these days. were im from if a guy finds your bait it is legal for him to sit down and hunt on it. i have ran my dogs off other peoples baits on accident only cause the bait was fifty yards off the road. in my experience hunting i cant go out with out finding some half ass bait. right next to the road. i have also got trail cam pics of other peoples hounds on my bait. thats just the way it is. if u dont like it i sugest moving your bait to a better spot where lazy hound hunters cant easly find it. but please where ever u r from dont ask for more regulations. i understand the frustration but we are all on the same side here. unfortunatly not everyone is ethical but we got to stick together to protect our ways. just my thought.

there has been alot of over analyzing this topic, i think the bottom line was running hounds off baits that dont belong to you, of course its possible for rig dogs to rig from the road and be turned loose, who was to know the bait was there, the big problem is the lazy sob that cant take time to put up a few baits, and feels its his right to run from someone elses bait, agree or not its not what a true houndsman should do, this is happening in many states that i know of first hand in the north east, cjohnson has the key word in his post ETHICAL, im not crying about this or do i really give two sh#$# about it i sleep good at night knowing i didnt deliberateley step on a fellow houndsman toes,

ive been thinking some more about this and i think if i had this problem rather than getting fish and game involved (they wouldnt do any thing any how) i think this is what i would do. get some Grawes Lures bear scent and a drag. make it look like the bait has been hit. do a long drag (couple miles) that ends at a tree with a caged coon or cat in it. and maybe leave a little note politely expressing your feelings. i would bet he will think twice the next time. and maybe set up a trail cam on video mode lol that sure would be funny. maybe i just got to much time on my hands lol. what u think about that idea.
