Well a few more, the first one is from a wall tent looking out. Glad to have it that day!

The second is when I am left in the wilderness alone for two weeks, no wonder I have bear problems.

And I had better give credit to the ones who pack the canvas in.


Anyways I have definitely not tried many brands but the one I am most happy with for the price and quality is
Montana Canvas brand. I also really like (Kniko(spellling)) brand stoves, we have two of the tunra models.
I think they may sell them in Cabelas but they are the ones made in Wallowa, OR.

Sweet setup Clarka57...Man oh man, seeing those wall tent and camp pics makes me wanna get mine out ASAP....We will have it out elk hunting and lion hunting this year...No better place to be!

Took my tent out for its first trip. It is a Davis tent, 12 X 15 with a cylinder stove. What a difference than staying in a dome tent. Did not get too cold, just down to the low 20's, but I was happy for the stove. I got a canvas painters dropcloth for the floor in the sleeping area. I am thinking of getting an actual floor if Davis offers it.


Nothing like having my 9 year old son cook breakfast for me.

Spencer; davis does offer a floor. Look back at my post on the first page, you'll see the blue full floor. I got the one with the zip out for the stove (so it doesnt melt when the stove is in use)
In seasons when a stove isnt necessary just close the zipper.
Water will run right underneath (and boy have we had rivers run underneath and not once has it leaked through)
On drive in trips I pack an old broom to keep 'er semi clean (elk camp is dusty) and its no big deal to wipe down with a wet towel.
My zipper broke last year on the stove zip out part but its not feasible to ship back from Canada to have fixed...

Thanks for the endorsement of the floor. I will get on their site and look into purchasing the floor.

Often wondered how it would in a rain storm, good to know that they work well.

Have any of you tried the pyramid tents? I know Cabelas has started to push them. And I just picked up one of the old US Army pyramid tents, it's the heavey nylon 12x12, but still pretty light. Going to get it set up today and get some pictures of it up here.

Seen pics, etc but never been in one...I know a couple people who use them for pack trips and like them...Keep us posted, I'm curious too

I just have a David Ellis tipee and it works great for me, quick and easy to set up, just not a whole lot of room like a wall tent.

Man there is just something about a good tent. Moses lived in one for at least 40 years. Abraham lived in one for most of his life. God even lived in one there for awhile, and he met with Moses in his so they could set up a moral code for the rest of history. Pretty cool history in tents if you ask me.

There was a time when little things like my marriage were falling apart, and it looked like I was finally going to get my dream home in the woods for awhile. I bought the army "GP Small" 8 man arctic tent. It is a hexagon, 18 feet across. I put it up in May and just figured me and my two kids could live there and enjoy the lake and the woods until things got too cold. Well, about 8 years later, we finally moved out of there, and not because it was too cold. It was the best home we could have ever hoped for, and we have a huge file full of great memories.

It has a lining and is a tent within a tent. It has the stove pipe hole, and the only trick was to keep things from getting too hot. Took a little learning, but we got good at it. We used a little cast iron stove, and, man, you get attatched to those things. When That thing wore out, it was like saying goodbye to my best freind. The first two winters we lived there, the temps dipped to 30 degrees below zero on more than one occasion. We were extremely comfortable and cozy in our castle. It is truely the most comfortable living I have ever experienced (consider the source). But I had many visitors there, men and women who made the comment "I could do this".

The tent cost us $400.00 at an army surplus store. It is by far the best investment I have ever made. If you are thinking about it, but just need a little encouragement: Go For It!!! Especially considering the way things seem to be going in this beautiful land of ours.

could you guys put up a link of some places where they sell wall tents like you guys are describing? i am in the market for a good wall tent but i don't want to buy a peice of crap.

IMO hands down the best you can get: www.davistent.com And, no, it's not my family, just same name They'll build anything you want and I've seen their shop and it's very impressive and great guys to work with

I'd like to know if anyone uses the wall tent stove attachable ovens...I've never used them but I'd like to. Anyone ever baked in them and if so, do you know of any good recipes or directions on using them. It'd be hard to beat good beer bread fresh out of the oven in the tent!

The tent is a 10x12. I use one ridge pole and two up rights with wall poles on the outside. Not the best pics of the tent. I also have a Outfitters model Cylinder Stove. That is the greatest stove I have ever used. Holds fire for hours and can flat run you out of the tent. The walls are only 41" and that cuts down on the room. The tent is a reenactment tent. I used to do a lot of historical black powder shooting.

The other contraption is just a gazebo with walls from Wal-Mart. It works good for a cook tent, that is until we got a horrendous wind storm of 60 to 70 mph. The tent made it but the cook tent frame looks like a pretzel!

This was my camp in 2009.

If you are looking for an affordable tent without all the bells and whistles check these out: They have served me well and held up to extended use in rain, snow and wind. I have four of them.

nobody using the attachable ovens on the stoves?! There must be a chef among us!
