I feed my dogs free choice and they vary through out the year but they keep it between 1 & 3 cups a day

I feed either Diamond Naturals Chicken & Rice or Science Diet Adult.
I ajust my dogs' feed amount just about daily or every other day. Seems to help out a lot with keeping them in condition, and keep the food bill under control. I hate people that starve a dog just to save money, or people that just waste feed by dumping it to them without much thought, other than "oh, they'll run it off" (more like crap it all out)
I feed mine twice a day and that helps a lot too.
I have one that gets 3 cups a day on an average summer day. 4 when roading or hunting in warm months. 5-6 in hard hunting or winter. He's a hard keeper.
His mom gets 2 cups a day on average. 3 or 4 when hunting or cold weather. Easy keeper. Gets fat easy.
Another that eats 2-3 a day no matter what. She holds the same weight on it. Summer time usually never more than 2, and winter never more than 3. She's on the lean side. The more I feed her, the more she craps, and never gains any weight, so I don't waste the feed trying.
My puppy eats 4 -5 cups a day. More than any dog in the yard.

Amount of cups per day doesn't mean a hill of crap unless we know WHAT you are feeding. Quality makes a bigger diff than does quantity

when i had my english dog he ate about 2.5 cups a day, he was a big dog about 28 inches but real lean
the beagles get 1 cup a day, huntin season or not, thats all they'll eat.
i feed diamond high energy and switch it up with nutro max cause the dogs seem to like a little variety, but that nutro's just so damn expensive.

automatic feeders is the best method I found, they eat when they want and learn that they do not have to eat a lot at once as food will always be there.

I live in Texas and I feed soaked feed everyday. An old dog man told me dog never get enough water. When it’s cold they don’t want to drink the cold water that makes them cold and when it’s hot they just don’t take in enough. Each dog is slightly different and I evaluate them daily as to their body condition. If they look heavier I cut it back slightly or add if they look lite. I feed a little less quantity wise because it swells obviously. This allows for better digestion and less waste because you aren’t feeding as much. Unless I have a real greedy dog, they are usually way more satisfied after a feeding of wet feed than they are dry. I guess it also helps them to feel full. I do feed dry periodically for a couple of days to keep their teeth and gums good.
