this is what ive come up with so far, stainless steel tubing, plastic skis, lighter gauge alum box, or it can be plastic, but if you wreck or it gets cold you have to keep buying them.

here are some new wheeler boxes, the dogs can still rig, but wont jump off and get hung, a member of this forum gave me this idea., it can fit three comfortably, 4 or more depending on dog size, i run majestics and everything thing else, but like the big dogs.

couple more the box size is 40 inches long, 22 tall and 18 wide, bolt it to the bottom, or can also make rack for the top, or just use straps. the dogs heads go towards the front of the wheeler, so you would have one head on both sides of you for rigging, we didnt want any holes on sides or back for neck breaking purposes. vaughn nielson

Would it work making the four-wheeler box the same one as the pull behind box? Rather than having two boxes of roughly equal size, make one that would bolt onto the frame of the sled?

thats a great idea, just put it so the big holes are in the back, or cover them up how ever you want so the snow dont get in, thats what i do. vaughn nielson , im also donating one of these boxes to the ufh banquet in two weeks.

Works pretty good.
Need to fab up a bracket that stays attatched to the quad with a couple anchor points to accept the box and ratchet straps. This will keep it from sliding or shifting 100%.
Fits 3 dogs comfortably but 5 in a pinch.

42"Lx24"Wx26"high
You want it not quite as wide as the quad so it doesnt catch trees on tight trails when turning etc.

Ok so I finally had a reciever and summer box made up.

Here is the reciever I through bolted to the back rack. Hooks on each side for a quick cinch down with two ratchet straps. The reciever is about 4" narrower than the quad so it never gets caught on anything (neither do the boxes on tight turns around trees etc)

Image

Both boxes are the exact same size so its a winter/summer set up.

Image

I made the top front and back head rung too wide so I have to get another rail of aluminum tubing tacked on but here is the summer box. I'm pretty sure that little bitch could weasel out if she wanted to, not good if I'm out hiking looking for other dogs and she gets 'bored'.
No head holes out the side so they dont get clubbed by branches or trees etc. Can fit 4 dogs fine and 5 in a pinch.

Image

Obviously wood chips will just blow away so I rockguarded the bottom and screwed a section of that synthetic floor runner stuff for foot traction, weighs nothing at all.
Likely drill a few 1/4" holes at the back for water to drain out.
