I'll vote for Oklahoma You can run year round, no we dont get to run our black bear or lions. But we got pretty decent game wardens.it never gets -20 below, you get some good snow here and there, theres dry arid ground out west, tall grass ranches up north. green country out east and mountains down south east and thers tons of coon,coyote,fox,bobcats& Hogs and when you loose a dog folks generaly take'em in feed em and then call you.Plus we got lots of indian land were you can get even less restrictions.

Just my thoughts, but i love it. If we could run lions other than those that are causing trouble it would be perfect

i love oregon but I am going to have to say it is not the best state to be a hound hunter, but could be the best state to be a hunter in general. Sure do love the bobcat hunting here in Oregon thought we have some pretty ones. It's just an annoyance we can't run bear and lions anymore to train and exercise the dogs more.

Any Maine hunters/opinions out there? That state interests me....

no im kidding, it is pretty good here season is decent u can start traing normally august 1st but this yeat they let us have july1
there is a 4 dog limit during kill season thats the biggest bummer in my mind
they did allow 6 dogs during training season this year also but it was all a trail year to see how it turns out
alot of butting heads up here as there is every where im sure
new guys moving in the area and thinking they own it and F the locals not all are like that but more then i like
season runs from middle of september to end of october around 6 weeks
no hunting on sundays
alot of paper company land from central to northern maine u can buy permits to run on it but then u bump heads with the local guides that hunt it with baits they think they own the bears
u can run of baits or rig or free cast so its up to u and the choice of hunting u perfure

but i have my own slice of heaven and the landowners kinda tend to me fairly well i have around 4000 acres of farm land and swamp 5 minutes from my house i hunt and the farmer keeps most everybody else out unless they are with me
and i have a friend that is the logging gig and they have around 10000 acres im gonna start running next year so i think its great right now lol

That throws Maine out of the running for best state.

That is my favorite day (esp early morning) to hunt. The woods and roads are always quieter. Either the masses are wore out from Friday night and Saturday, or waking up late to go to church, or watching football. Whatever it takes to keep them in bed, in town, or on the couch on Sunday works for me.

Yes Idaho would be great If some people would have ethics and not shoot every cat they tree and in the last 3 years where I hunt the cat population has decresed dramatically, and a couple more years of this and there will not be any cats to run.

I honestly dont think there is a better place because one year utah could be doing good on lion while idaho is having a shortage and then the next year idaho could be packed with em and utah not have very many at all.I think this aplys in most places.but thats my opinion.

Utah! I have been all over the US.Make a dog there and you will catch game anywhere you go!Spring and fall bear.Year round lion.Great bobcat and coon.You can hunt in tennis shoes or snow shoes, and nearly no wolves to speak of.Any one tells you diferent can't catch game on dry ground.
