Twist I have been told a female porky when in heat will scream like a woman,

I have never heard it, but the guy was a truthful guy, and I didn't doubt him I don't know.

I have been hunting lions with my own hounds for almost 15 years here in Nevada along with Utah, Idaho, Arizona and some other places. My brother has hunted lions and bear with hounds for about 20 years. My dad hunting lions with hounds for about 30 years. Both of my grandpas hunted lions for with hounds for about 35 years. One of my grandfathers was also a governement trapper and lion hunter in New Mexico and Colorado. I have also learned a lot from a good friend of mine who has hunted lions with hounds for about 25 years. All of these men have spent a lifetime in the mountains of Nevada, New Mexico, California, Utah, and Colorado making a living. None of us have ever heard a lion "scream". In fact it is surprising how silent a lion bay, fight or tree is. I have heard them make hisses, spits, or low grunts. Never a scream. Some people claim that the female lion make this scream when they are in estrus. I do know that a fox can make a loud noise similar to what a lot of people describe as a lion scream. This has been a topic of discussion between my good friend and I for a lot of years. It seems that the people that hear the lions scream are the ones that spend the least amount of time in the hills. If you read Whiley Caroll's book hunting the american lion he talks about this subject at length. My father hunted with Whiley several years. Neither of those men had heard a lion scream. Neither did the Lee brothers. Several years ago while camped out while working here in Nevada I heard a female lion and two cubs "chirping" back and forth to each other. This sounded a little different than the normal chirping. It sounded a almost like a hawk making a noise. This was also at night when a hawk would not be out. It also was not an owl. I found the tracks of the lions the next morning. I am not going to say that lions don't scream, but I guess I would have to see it for myself.
