To Ryan and Poser, Very nice to hear how you are both understanding and helping each other out. This pup WILL turn around. That flight and transport was very traumatic on her and it will take time for her to adjust to Ryan and her new surroundings. Personally Ryan, I would not hunt her right now. Keep her with you every minute you possibly can. Take her in the truck with you everywhere you go. She's still a pup. It may take a couple more weeks or two months but you'll know when she's ready. You'll see the change in her behavior.
I've only flown one dog on an airplane about 10 years ago. It wasn't a hound but a 6-7 year old dog. It changed her personality for a very long time afterward. I will never fly another dog.

Thats my plan, milkbones and walks in the woods. When she starts trashing on the walks I'll start training.
Re: Another bad dog deal.......
i have one of the litter mates to Dixie as stated these pups were fireballs from the word go, Jason did all the pup training up to about 6 months old and they are some of the best starting pups that we have had, that being said when i first brought her back to my place to keep working with her she took a little time to adjust and start working like she was for Jason and she didn't have to fly anywhere plus it is basically the same environment. now that she has adjusted she is doing very good again, i think with a little time that Dixie will come back around and make Ryan a pretty good hound. Ryan don't know if that helps any but that was my experience and she is doing great know but for whatever reason they do need a little adjustment time. Good luck hope it all turns out good.

Ok...now here is the real question. I guess there is no obligation BUT...you, Poser, say you feel real bad. If she doesn't straighten out are you going to refund the $1500. I mean all of the other expenses should be on him, but the $1500 purchase price should be for a dog that is as you say. Don't have a dog in the hunt....just curious.

Re: Another bad dog deal.......
Tonight we took a walk around the farm i live on far enough away from the buildings to be reasonably sure we wouldn't get after a barn lion. She didn't handle that well, but she was getting better as my pockets were full of milkbones and dog food.
Not a pro by any means but I too have used a method similar to this. Only suggestion I might make is quit expecting anything for now. Like handling. Dogs can be built up or crushed by the simplest of things. Shes crushed. Needs a new friend. Friends are unconditional, real true type of friends. Dogs are the best judge of character. I'd say most likely it isn't you but don't cross that one off either. My similar method is fill your pockets like you've already done. Go in one of them buildings. Controlled enviroment, no trash or strange dogs. A barn or work shop works best. I use my work shop. Again don't expect her to do anything for you. Don't ask her to. Lead her in and turn her loose. Pay her no mind and start tinkering on something. Not banging on things or raising hell but just seem busy. She'll take in the new surroundings. Let her come to you. She'll eventually try to sniff out those pockets. Pay her some attention and reward her from your hand. Move away. Let her come back. All the while talking to her after she comes to you. Go to a different area. Several days in a row. When she'll lick your spit out of your hand or lick at your face while blowing in her snout or whatever her sign of submission is to you then your ready to move on. You have to try to bond, unconditionally. She has to realize shes still in a loving home and not been sold into slavery because of her performances whether good or bad. If shes not falling for it then short her a time or two at regular feeding and try again. Her belly is the quickest way to get to her heart in my opinion. Call it crazy but some are just that touchy feeley.
Never let school stand in the way of my education.

AE, that right there is a golden nugget you just dropped! More dog deals would be successful, if the guy on the other end, took that kind of care, to get to know his new hound. They might be tools in a way, but they have a heart.
Re: Another bad dog deal.......
i'm not expecting her to do any obedience. We took a walk in the woods today and she hunted pretty close. She would come in to me and get a treat and get petted. I sat on a stump and she got out of sight for a bit, I just sat there. She must have thought she lost me because she came back on the run and sure seemed glad to find me. She was definetly having some fun tonight, i called her in a few times and gave her a treat, when she didn't listen i just shut up and waited till she did. by the end of the walk she was running a good bit and keeping good tabs on me. Not much "training" But we were on a walk she seemed to enjoy. Good enough for now.

I dont think it is even close to being at this point, and I bet it never will. BUT I don't think poser is the type to screw anyone at all.
Re: Another bad dog deal.......
Not what was ment by that statement.... heat 1 asked a question that probably most of us were thinking but no one would ask....I dont know any of these guys involved with the deal (probably all great guys), however since this is a forum and this subject was posted for comment, I think that this is a question that alot of guys would like to hear answered.
Re: Another bad dog deal.......
poser is pretty good about responding to people that ask he questions, he just hasn't been around a computer and probably wont be until this weekend, but when he is you will have his answer, also keep in mind he has been talking to Ryan on the phone and working things out with him.

Also keep in mind that by unanimous opinion, there wasn't anything wrong with that pup when she left Jason's house.

Re: Another bad dog deal.......
Absolutely not poser's fault if this pup doesn't turn out, which I don't think is going to be the case. It sounds like Ryan is handling this pup exactly how he should, slow and easy. Now I'm sure some guys on here would have the electicity to her already. Then asking if they're going to get their money back after they've ruined her. And we all wonder why dog deals go bad.
