Mr. Mike,
Mr. Jim Moore is originally from the Capital of Dixie…the Great State of Mississippi.
He moved out to the Vernal, Utah area when the Oil and Gas boom hit. Then moved to Southeast Texas many years later, following the Grandkids around. Mr. Jim’s son is a Minister right out of Orange, Texas.
He has always been “Houndy”! Having had Deer and Coon hounds when a youngster and a young man in College (Go Rebels is his Cry).
Upon moving to Utah he hooked up with a fellow named “Meacham” (sp) and his friend named “Labrum” (sp). He must have learned pretty well as his photo collection (but not his Ego) will rival Ike’s!
Mr. Jim also has a Lion Hunting buddy I think you and I know; they must be close as he gets to stay at this fellows place when visiting, a man I think of as maybe the best living Lion Houndsman, Mr. Larry Hendricks (sp). (tossup him or the Warners)
When Mr. Jim moved to East Texas he soon learned that his Western Hounds were the wrong type and started working to fix this problem. He called Dad many times and finally got an Invite to come Hunt with us in Florida. It was funny, while he was here in Florida with us, Mr. Meacham or one of the others would call him every day to find out if these “Shorteared Hounds” could really catch a Bobcat.
The conversation with one of these guys after telling them about how bad it was and how long it took to get to the bayup with it only being 250 yards from the truck was something I wish that I had recorded. They found it hard to believe that we had caught a Cat, then that it took 1:15 to make the short retrieve!
He now has some Hounds from Mr. Harold Parker and Dad has let him have some so the Bobcats in SE TX and SW LA are no longer safe!
Go ahead and let Crickets Sibs run that ole Shorttail whose track you found. If they like the deal as much as she does, it should make for some Good Music!
