29, got my first hound given to me when I was 10, he had a beautiful bawl mouth but that was it. I worked two years after school and summers, to rat hole enough money to buy a finished coon dog. I gave the man the money he gave me the dog. It's a good thing he was a honest man, I didn't even hunt him before I bought him. That big redtick was everything and more than the man said he was, one of the best hounds I've had.

Just turned 19, walked to my first lion tree when I was still in mommas tummy :D

Dad was 50, and I don't think there was many people who could outwalk him, or any that had more broken bones, surgeries, or cops taze him.

Speaking of, how many other hound-doggers have been tazed? LOL

Nicki,

You brought an old memory to mind:
Ha! Ha! Daddy Greg and I are setting under a pinion tree in the HD Mountains in Colorado. Snow is deeper than hell. Dogs got off on a bobcat and Chaser is up there on the snow slide trying to gather dogs . We got levis on and such and pretty damn wet. So we start this big old fire . Umm! feels good we are just setting there watching him up there stepping up on the snow and then falling down thru it right up to his nuts. Hard work! Well Greg with that little devilsh smile says we better throw another log on the fire! I said for sure! Well when Billy finally get's down there and he is played out he is wringing wet. So we tell him take off them clothes and hang them up over this fire and get warmed up. Well he did and we all survived, but dang what a picture that would have been. LOL!

Oh by the way Sky was just a pup then. He and Gator I beleive was his littermate or maybe that was his sire and out of my friends Greg Graves's blue female Juice. You are 19 and that was more than 19 years ago. LOL! Keep after em!

27 according to the papers, but how many years does a year of dialysis and a kidney transplant add to the total?

Beats me, I will probably run these stinky SOB's until I can't get out of bed, at all.

Later,

Marcial

OH and I have been tazed, lol

I remember Sky and Gator as pups and then it seemed that Greg might have sold Gator to Hal or the Farmers. Can't remember been too long ago. I remember the mother to them because Greg Graves of Kirtland got her from Smokey River Kennels and she was I think a daughter of Diamond Jim. He had a male that was from Uctmans Kennel that he called Joe but I don't thing that was the father to Sky but I might be wrong. I think Jimmy had Juice for awhile and then Wayne Woods got her I think.

See I am really showing my age without telling it yet. Juice was bought as a pup in 1980 the year I moved from Vernal to Aztec and I was 26.

Well, I'm only 34 and just getting into hounds. Seems like the next logical step for me in hunting. I've had both knees worked on and was told they both need replacing, but I'm too young. The worst thing a person could tell me is "You CAN'T do it!". The hardest thing I've run into as far as hounding, is finding one of you "EXPERIENCED" houndsmen to learn from. I wasn't lucky enough to have it passed on from generations of family. So far, the only thing I haven't been able to do is quit smokin' and get into the Forest Service. Apparently you need a degree to clean toilets and hoe weeds for the Forest Service. Looks like the BLM and Army Corps of Engeneers are my best bet. I'll get off my "Soap Box" now. Thanks for listening. Dan

I think dad said Sky's dad was a Hal bred male. I know they weren't papered.

I remember one day when sky was prolly 13 or so, dad left him on the rig and walked to the tree. He left me and a couple hunters at the truck (The tree was a few yards off the road) and dad handed me the Hot-Shot, knowing Sky would throw a holy hissy fit for not going to the tree.

Dad reminded the hunters that if they poked Sky with the hit-shot they better be ready to get bit. Sure enough, Sky threw a fit and the hunter poked him with it without pushing the button... That old bluetic came unglued on that pole and I think the hunter was so scared he wet his pants!

When we had Sky euthanized at the vet office at almost 17 years old, he saw the needle coming and bit the vet and drew blood on her. The vet that did it sowed him up more then almost anyone. He was a fighter that is for sure!

I just turned 50 and feel the same as did in my thirties. I didn't mention my twenties because back then I drank so much I felt like crap all the time. Following the dogs will keep you in shape to a certain extent, but it will also wear out your body. Especially the knees. When I hunt the big country I aint going without my good mule, Ole Betsy.
