Dennis,

I keep forgetting that you didn't get into the hounding game until after 1995.

Reading your posts I was certain you were in it in 1895. ;)

If you are still confused at why people refer to you as a "redbone guy" you might go back and take one more look at those photos you posted. ;)

Good looking dogs! A buddy of mine loaded up my pups this morning and ended up catching three lions. He was pretty excited and I was glad those barking ***** finally caught something without an old dog.

Of course the best part is my pups were under a lion tree and I never left the couch. I'm finally getting this hounding thing figured out!! ;)

PS... I'm confused. You said your Lionheart dog has been dead for several years. When did the dog die? I swear you were still catching game with that dog just a couple of years ago. I'm confused... which shouldn't shock anyone that knows me. Am I thinking of another dog? When did Lionheart die?

Happy New Years kevin, and may you not fall out of a tree

You know Ike, I thought of your post this afternoon when I had to climb up 60 feet of pine tree to dislodge a bobcat that got stuck up there. Climbing trees or crawling down holes to retrieve game wasn't a problem for me back in the 70's when I was a teenager, but I've about decided I'm getting too old to do this anymore. I need to find me a young apprentice like HoundDawg did to do all the tree climbing, hole crawling, bad hikes, and dog handling for me. Hey Mutz, you still looking to tag along on a few big game hunts??

Anyway, I appreciate your concern Dennis and thanks, I had a pretty good New Years

Ikester,

So what's the deal with that Lionheart dog? When did he die? Or she I mean.

I was thinking the dog was still around fairly recently, but you said she died several years ago...

So I'm confused... When did that dog die? Was there a Braveheart dog too or am I thinking about Lionheart?

Help me out...

That's cool that you give your dogs nicknames Ike, It's something I do too. Unfortunately, buddyw has the profanity filter enabled so I can't post them....... :(

Kevin, I might have to take off that filter myself and borrow most of your names and probably come up with a couple more after my weekend..... It's a good thing those dogs were out of hearing when I got down to that Tree. or what I'm absolutelly 100% Positive used to be a Treed bobcat before the Dogs decided to leave it  That's kind of a dangerous thing for a Dog to do.

I was Stomping and kicking and Trowing a temper tantrum.. Flat pissed off out there good thing no one was able to see that, Probalby a good thing the dogs weren't around either.. .. .. The Day before that we had a Supper running Bobcat that ran Jumped for probably at least an 1 1/2 hours.. Smart Cat, and it was a really nice running cat..Watched it Cross the Road Twice.. I thought for sure it was a dead cat, thought the dogs were going to eat it on the ground a few times if it didn't find a tree , Got booted up and everything.. Don't know what happened on that one but 2 hours later we ended up scratching our heads?? Best guess is a hole and it knew where it was going, I would guess on a Cat like that the dogs can't make too many mistakes or losses... My Buddy ran a Cat in the same area a year ago from the other direction that ended in the exact same spot Probably the same cat??? regardless the cat won.. Then Yesterday my Mutts started a Female, up to a Breeding spot (really cool to see that), and the took the Male out of there Jumped.. (Makes you think what would a Two headed Cat Fight on the ground look like.. from the looks of the tracks and the blood.. I think I was pretty close to finding out!) Anyways they never caught or Treed that Cat near as I could tell.. That was a Nice Cat too..

So all in all Three For sure Cats that should have been caught (no Excuses especially when they left that tree!!, But lots of Nick names for the dogs)

Smashed a Door in on the truck in By a fallin tree that my ass (thought??) I had enough room to Squeeze by it It was either that or lose my momention in the deep snow..(I didn't realiaze I was playing a game of double or nothing!!) Then I Broke off my CB Whip (which I learned that a 7 foot Cable Dog tie out works well as a back up antenna, I would stand on the dog box holding it up while the Wife Radio'd across to my friend..)

all for the low price of a good F'd up weekend of Cat Hunting.. So if you let me borrow all your nick names.. I might take that filter off for you to use also!!

It's Peachy!!

We'll be licking our wounds preparing for the next battle, It's just half time and the Hounds are down by allot, infact the cats are dominating the game..!! LOL...That's my glass Half Full story, you don't want to hear the 1/2 empty story..

It's Like a Love/Hate relationship..I'm sure it's not heathy, It might be even borderline mental LOL...

I think a guy gets into more bad situations cat hunting then all the other hunting in North America. Nothing like sliding a truck over the edge on a nice icy mountain road and having to hike out. :x I did that a few weeks ago. It was a pretty spendy tow bill too. Lucky for the kids, their Christmas gifts were already bought and wrapped!

yes I'm very serious about going on a hunt. Man you caught a bobcat? I heard them are harder to catch than anything. You must have some excellent dogs. I had a guy tell me once that if your dogs can consistanly catch bobcats, any lion isn't a problem at all. I will pm you with my phone number if your serious. :D

Ike,
I watched a dvd you made at a friends house over Christmas break. You videoed your dogs following a lion. Coldtrailing I think you guys call it. Anyway there were two red dogs. I can't remember what you called them, and they were follwing a cat track and kind of at a lope, there was patchy snow, and I could not see a track in front of them in the snow? They didn't have their heads to the ground but they were barking. Did they have that cat running in front of them? I'm just trying to get this cat hunting thing figured out so I may ask you guys alot of questions.
Thanks mutz

I don't have any illusions about my dogs Mutz nor should you. On a good day my dogs are average and on a bad day???.......Well, like I mentioned earlier, that's why buddyw has to keep the profanity filter enabled

Honestly Mutz, about the only thing my dogs truly excell at is mediocrity.

You want to hear my theory on bobcats?? Some days you run them, and some days they run you. Go back and read the stories posted this past week by Mike Leonard and buddyw and you'll begin see what I mean. I taken enough butt whoopin's on bobcats that when I actually catch one I'm surprised. I still get tears of joy when I look up a tree and see a bobcat looking back down at me.........
