Here's my take. You have to be one selfish S.O.B with a real understanding woman to have decent dogs. Otherwise, go single if it's that important to you. Find a ranch girl that has to have a cow dog in bed with her to be happy. The one problem is that damn cow dog bites if you startle her, so don't try to sneak up on the little woman in the middle of the night. :o

Maybe she just needs to feel loved. Take her for a weekend somewhere she likes. Buy her flowers. Maybe do the dishes. Tell her you love her and want her to be happy. Tell her your hounds make you happy. Ask her if there is a way you can both be happy. If that don't work, keep trying.

My wife syas when the kids hit 2 she loses them.... When i run hounds i usually have one or more of the kids with me!!! I've took my kids hunting ever since they could walk. My wife goes ever so often. But me out hunting all night or day can be explained to her as this.... "Would ya rather me be in a bar or a whore house, or out hunting with my dogs and kids!" That usually ends the argument...well for a bit anyway.

now hunting we need to talk about..... relationships.... I'd rather trail skunks then try to guess a woman!!

My wife hates dogs, she hates my hunting etc. I have three beutiful kids that will no doubt be joining me on my hunts in the near future. I would hate for her to leave me but I will nevergive up hunting for a women. I have seen my buddies do it and still get treated like crap. once she don't have the hunting to *&^%tch about it will be something new. some women just like to be in controll no matter what.
some women are better at hounden than us men, and some like to go with you which is fun at first but then gets annoying when you need to go out with the boys to blow off some steam. my secret to keepin her is #1 barefoot and pregnant at all times, and #2 when you have a big ol wad of cash in your hand from selling a dog or guiding a hunt, throw her a ten and tell her to go get herself something nice    hope nobody takes this last part too seriouse, i'm just funnin. ha ha hee hee chuckle chuckle.

There just is no argueing with that Edwards guy. He always has a great way to put a point to something. Thanks Dan that is awesome. :D

On a different way of looking at though. Most everyone is right on here, from both sides. I just went through this type of situation as well. I don't have any dogs but miss the hell out of it.

The thing with this is that it is not the dogs that are the problem. She is wanting more of your time, the dogs just happen to be what is occupying what she wants more of. If you get rid of your dogs and pick something else up that will become the problem. So your decision is not getting rid of the dogs, but how much more time you want to spend with her. I would suggest finding the balance of time with her and the dogs. She has to feel more wanted than them. If her needs are higher than what you want to give, then that is when you have to decide whether it is you or both of you that is more important.

I would suggest taking her with you now. Let her see what it is like to develope a dog from nothing to a game catching fool. She will appreciate what you are doing more. If she is there when the dogs screw up she will see that it is not all tea and crumpettes. If she is there when your young dog strikes its first track and moves it to the finnish she will be hooked. Also remember when the dogs do screw up, you are not mad at her so don't direct your frustration to her either. She is there for you, and probably can help more than she will hinder.

She doesn't have to go everytime either, but she should have the option most of the time. If it is a case that you need some me time with the guys, just let her know, "today the guys and I are going out." She should be ok with that if the rest of your lives are in order.

I think Brady said it best though, "family is much better than dogs." I miss it but not as much as I missed my family.

Matt that is sound advice and that is what hits it for me .My wife will go a couple times a year going more now that the kids go with me it is not her thing . But I have found that taking time out and making sure her needs are met ( lol ) taking her out and making time with and for her puts me further ahead in the game.

I made it CRYSTAL CLEAR when we met years ago that I was a hunter and it is what I am and what it would be like being with me if she chose to do so. So I took her out with me and I just think I got LUCKY :beer I have three kids from a previous marriage also.
