I bet 9 out of 10 at elk creek would like to see the greys run in
a grey hound only division. I think it would be more fun for everyone
that way. A full greyhound is easy to spot, short ear's, needle nose
and in most case's should have a small roll cage straped to his head.

Changes to the changes, this should make the finales a little fairer for the dogs that make the finals.

In the heats the 1st line dogs will go into there own finale, then the 2nd line and both tree's will go into a second finals to be drawn out, (basicly making 2 divisions) if the 1st line dogs gets one of the trees then the other part of the tree and 2nd line will go into the 2nd division final, so the fastest dogs on the grounds will only run against the fastest dogs in the finals.

With as many dogs that will make the finals we will be breaking the dogs down into 5 finals this spread the finals money out to more dogs.

We are going to start running heat races on Friday at around 4:00 shut down at 6:00 and then run a bear race for the dogs that are on the grounds,
With a second bear race being added you will only aloud to run your dog in one of the races so no dogs will have a advantage over another dog.

These Field Trials are for fun, the money made by the club go's back to you guy's in the form of more Field trials and raffle items and that money go's to SPVF!

If your coming to try and fill your wallets your coming to the wrong place :beer :beer

Hope to see every body there,
Dale

Well said (again and in another way!) Dale. I go to the races each year and never plan on making money but look forward to the fellowship, seeing new folks out (especially the kids because they are the future of our sport) and having fun. If you do happen to win on your dog or someone elses, awesome! But that should be looked at like icing on cake! Everyones dog has a chance period! For example, my cousin and I placed a bet (over $100) on that Hanna dog in Spenceville who most of the time is guaranteed to come in first and she blew the track!

See you all in Elk Creek!

Hey Chuck

As far as the Greyhounds go, it's not a problem picking them out of the crowd of dogs, down here it was the guys that took that Greyhound, bread him to his hounds and then back to his hounds a couple of generations until they ran like a greyhound but looked mostly like a hound that we had problems, at least that's how it happened down here and we had a "open Division " at our races but they didn't want to run there 1/2 breeds there even though we payed the same money as the other divisions, we then went to judging the dogs by how they looked and after a few of them slipped though because the judges wouldn't stand up to there hunting buddies (who were trying to cheat them out a few buck) and say thats not a hound, then when the 1/4-1/8 Greys started to win everything and thats when this club started the qualifiers, and as we have seen over the last few years of running this way it hasn't worked like it should have. so now this is another step in trying to make these as fair as we can and still try and get a race this size done.

What's the two bear races gonna pay? An if there is a tree, an a puppy what they pay?

The bear races pay 80%, so if we have 50 dogs at $20.00 that's $1000.00 minus the 20% the club takes, the $800.00 is split 30% ($240.00) for 1st line/ 30% ($240.00) for 1st Tree, 20%($160.00) for 2nd line and 20% ($160.00) for 2nd tree, plus the auction.
The treeing contest and the puppy races pays the same, it all depend on how many dogs are entered.

walkerdog wrote:Why don't you leave Elk Creek the way it is? People come from a long way to that event, to find out when they get there, they may be shut out right off the bat. I myself enter ALL my dogs. Who took a vote on it? Not the people that travel to Elk Creek. You might as well just enter the greyhounds, since anyone who goes to this one knows that there are quite a few greyhounds you compete your hounds against anyway.
I'm new to this stuff. I know its a great way to meet ppl but not sure I want to spend the money & time on field trials with the gas being $4 a gal.
Grey hounds just enter in the these trials but they don't actually hunt them. why does other clubs don't allow them and they do at Elk creek trials.

This way your not going to see 3rd and 4th division dogs anymore..

That's how I understand it also. It kind of alienates a large number of hounds from even competing. It isn't the elimination of the qualifying race that I don't like, it is the elimination of the 2 slower divisions. There has been an extra day added to the trial, and eliminated hours of qualifiers, so why isn't there time for 3rd and 4th divisions? Have you decided whether or not you are going to have puppy races and treeing contests? Is a puppy considered 6 months? If so, would you post it?

Froggy your right there won't be 3rd or 4th division for a greyhound to get in and a hound not even stand a chance of winning, or some body dopping there dogs down for the qualifyer then up for the heats and finals, you also won't have 9 hr of running qualifying tracks that don't put all the fastest dogs in the 1st or 2nd division like it should, or having to run heat races with out any auction or having to run the Bear race after dark.
what you will have is the fastest/1st line dogs put in there own final (and depending on how many dogs we have entered possibly 2 finals) and then 3 finals for the 2nd line dogs and trees.
And froggy I don't know where you were at that Field Trial in Feb. when I shut down the field Trial, got everybody's attention with the PA and asked the entire crowd what there thoughts were about these changes AND NOT ONE PERSON STEPPED UP AGAINST THESE CHANGES everybody there said it was about time
