thanks for that imformative tidbit andy . also on what you said i think some dogs have more of the wolf side in them ,and hunt for food . just from my personnel experiences and opinion.my rabbit dog would like to eat the rabbit yet she brings the rabbit to me only everytime for the praise . beagles are deffinately not known for retrieving ,but this is something she has always done.couple of times different people shot the rabbit ,and she couldnt find me so she carried them back to the truck looking for me .while she waited she ate the rabbits on both ocassions.so she hunts for both reasons.i use beagles for an example because they have alot of prey drive, and dont necessarily listen all that well without electricity even though there are exceptions . i dont think there is an answer that applies to all dogs on this question .i like just as much to find out what makes a hound tick as i do a woman

feeding them part of the kill is the best kind of praise.when my dogs were pups as soon as the game hit the ground i would cut it open and let'em have the insides.now they associate that as a type of praise i guess because now if i dont tie them up at a kill within minutes they will tear it open and eat the insides.as far as for more aggresive, i dont know if that is the cause but when we skin one most of the time we have to pick hair off the leg bones where they have been chewin on them.i also think it helps them to know what i want them to run because we have never let them chew or wool or even get a taste of anything but a bear and we dont have much trouble with em runnin trash.

i think lettin them pull hair and get to much on the game they chased is a good reward for them as for feedin it to them i doubt it makes a difference to them one way or anthor

When we kill a bear, I always feed the liver to the dogs, it's a reward and praise. Many times when I kill a bobcat, I skin it at the tree and cut chunks of meat off as I'm skinning it and toss them to the dogs. Feeding liver won't make a bear dog out of a cull, but it is a reward and the dogs appreciate it. Most dogs won't eat fresh bear liver at first, as pups I will rub fresh blood on their face and nose to get them used to and unafriad of the smell and teach them to eat liver. I don't know that it makes any permanent difference but I believe it helps a pup get used to and like running bear a little faster. The downside of feeding the dogs game is that if they catch it on the ground and kill it, you better be right there if you want the hide, cause they are going to eat it.

I feed my dogs every bear or lion we kill...but I cant say it makes awhole lot of a difference, except for the dogs trying to tear the hide to get to the meat after we shoot something out. But I have noticed some dogs will tree alittle harder and be more aggressive towards the game. JMO
