Pretty good advice. Once one of my friends was hunting with some hog hunters and his dogs were running to catch. They had a hog bayed and they were all on horse back. The older man lifted up a 30/30 shot the hog and told his son to go get that bag of dog food.
When they came home he took his knife and made a cut on the hog and the pack of dogs were on it like piranha's.

I could never understand why someone would buy heart worm med for dogs when they can use ivomec that is made for horses, cows and pigs.

Still always found it made my dogs run hot. I personally don't like feeding my dogs less than 12 hours before hunting/working them - feel it slows them down a tad. Predators are at their sharpest when they are hungry....same applies for dogs within reason.

Medications generally only have one ingredient and can be adjusted to the proper dose for the specific animal. Some medications definitely should not be given to different species. Straight Ivomec is fine for dogs, but you should not give your dog Ivomec Plus because it can be harmful to their livers. I am a big fan of off label use of hog/cattle medication on dogs. My point about the vitamins being that a 40lb omnivore needs different vitamins & minerals in different ratios than a 1000lb herbivore. Sure you can adjust the dosage but the ratios will still be wrong. I have known dogmen who used horse vitamins for years....if it works for you, that is all that matters.
