Scrubb got the pedigrees, looks like those pups gonna have a little of every thing in them, quite a bit of that clown blood, I'm not the biggest fan of those clown dogs but people been real successful with them over the years, all see them pups gonna have some wibs hornet stinger j. I have a little of that in some of my dogs, those two dogs (clown and stinger) seemed to be bred more for red Fox dogs, but that Thortons coppertop in the bottom of the gyps pedigree was supposed to be, from all I ever heard, the real deal greyfox /cat dogs down in florida

Perk, sense I got back into the fox hounds I have seen very few reg. Dog pedigrees that doesn't have the clown b dog in it. Don't really know anything about him except apparently he was very proficient at breedIng. He must have been doing his thing while I was just running deer dogs and rabbit beagles for several years while my kids were growing up.
I thought the Coppertop hound was a Georgia dog, I also heard she was the real deal.

Your right, it's hard to find a pedigree that he doesn't show up somewhere. I may be mistaken but I was under the impression that coppertop was owned by Jeff Thornton who was from Florida, had a discussion on speeddogs about him back 6-7 years ago. Clown had a littermate named Tramp, a buddy of mine always preferred the tramp pups said they had more bottom. Those dogs were decent dogs but as you know most pen or field trailers in this country prefer to run reds or yotes, which take more punishment in the pens than greys and don't require the same type of dog

I don't want anything tougher than a clown bred dog!! Good grief you'd ruin him with the alpha just trying to get em back. My dad has a deer dog outta clown breeding and east coast kennel breeding. Med speed, hunts a straight line. but will tree a fox...
Nowadays if you get any registered pen type dog that'll bark on a track 10 min before the game is up its a rare thing.

I'm sure Perk, you are right about Thortons Coppertop, dogs I got with him in em came from Ga. I prolly just assumed he was from there too.

I second that first statement. Can you please explain what you mean by your second statement? I'm 99.9% sure I know what you mean but wanna make sure we aren't speakin 2 different languages.

the pen dogs in this area have zero nose. You used to be able to find a decent dog that was ran in the pen that could be taken on the outside. But it "seems" the breeding has washed out the nose.

I like to see a dog work a track. hard to find one that'll bark on an older track and bark in the right place in a hot race.

Agree completely on those pen bred dogs, those pen bred field trial dogs keep the running dog breed popular on the east coast and south, but man are they usually junk with a capital J if you want a dog to strike trail run and finish a track (usually, there have been exceptions). No nose power. No brain power.

I couldn't agree more and yes we were speakin the same language. Only thing is I don't care if a dog don't open on an older track. Most of my wont but they still will work one. Most don't really cut loose til they jump. I mean they may bark when they first strike and what not and they may bark here or there but not too much at all really til jumped and then a few of them don't even open then much.
I got a young rattle headed male dog that pisses me off at the moment cuz he yelps and chops all over the damn place. Only cuz he is a fat ass though and cant keep up. HAHA!

Best jump dog I ever owned wouldn't trail, he would strike, then hit here, maybe 250 yards later again, normally byv3rd bark he had him going, jumped 2/3 the game I ran for 5-6 years when he was in his prime .. I don't mind a dog not cold trailing, but the ability to drift a track and jump it still isn't something I see much in these field trial dogs

Same here. Jump dogs are amazing animals. I absolutely love them. And man when they get some age on them they get to be incredible at it.

3 yr old I've got now starts most of my races doesn't say a word trailing.
I road em in front of the truck, what I don't like about it is she will leave the road on it, I'm watching her on the garmin so I can tell she's working a track but the other dogs don't know it. I stop and the other dogs stop wondering why we stopped. Most of the time 1 or 2 of them will find where she left the road and follow where she went but most of the time she's got it up and running before they catch up.
I don't like it, I want a dog to open if it's trailing to call the calvary to come help. Perk, she used to open on the strike and then every now and then like the dog you described and that was fine but now doesn't open at all till she's jumped. I like everything else about her and she produces a lot of game so I'll put up with it till something better comes along.

I wouldn't like that either scrub if that's how I hunted. As a matter of face I would feel just like you. I free cast 2 or 3 dogs though together every time so the majority of the time they kinda jump together. Of course the speed demons get away from the others quite a bit but that's a tough problem to have ya know. HAHA!

Dan, years ago there was a man named Rand Phillips that lived and hunted here. I was told he said, if you ever get a speed demon that runs off and leaves everything you got, get rid of that sob quick or you'll spend a fortune trying to find dogs to run with it.haha
