A fella stopped buy to look at some pups. When I was asked how many cats the Dame treeded last year, told him I dont keep track, He didnt come back. Dont worry about numbers, Get out there and have fun, help those that want help. and dont worry about the rest.

you get lucky and find a few good natured folks along the way, no need to associate with arrogant and jealous folks.

greeneyed monster brings out the worst in hound hunters especially.. ur a better person if you see the sport for what it is and dont get caught up in the numbers and whos the best.

like catching game as much as the next guy but at the same time like seeing good hounds no matter who owns em.

amen to all of you fellers posts. there are plenty of snobs and pricks I have to deal with in the hound world in my neck of the woods. I just mainly hunt with my neighbor and some youngsters around i hope that I can help keep them off drugs and in the woods follerin a dog no matter what color. I sure wish i could meet you fellers and not the typical bunch i have to deal with but oh well. Amen to kevin d signature!!!

my redneck way of living has helped my social graces at all.so if your not bleeding to death on the side of the road or seriously injured ,i dont even stop ,or hunt some where else ,its better in the dark any way.

finally a post that makes sense and proves there are a bunch of great people out there. ive only been hunting dogs for about five years and havent treed a whole bunch of bear or lion but damn i have fun trying. 90 percent of my hunting is by myself and i live far enough away from town that i have my own little piece of heaven. unfortunatly ive run into a few people that live fifty miles away and swear they should be the only one to control the land around here. very upsetting but they can have the valleys and ill take the rough country just to stay away from them. i had a guy almost fight with me because i wouldnt let him shoot the bear that was in my pasture behind the house but he wasnt bothering a damn thing. ill be the first to admit that my dogs aint nothing special to any one else and there are better out there but i wouldnt trade my dogs for anything. going out and enjoying the work and time i invest in them is the funnest thing i could do outside of spending quality time with my family. from what ive read here i would feel honored to know any of ya and tip a beer or two back and listen to your stories. god bless and keep it fun. maybe ill see ya in the woods, ill be the one looking for my dogs while ya all are treed and ill be enjoying every minute of it.

I have to speak out of frusttration only because i have had people almost wreck there trucks on the road trying to get around me ,when they know my dogs just bailed off the box ,so they go up the road ,stop shoot a couple times .in the air to ruin the dogs trailing a track. or maybe you ran all night to cut a fat lion track, but you have sleep in the front seat of a ford ranger, waiting for the sun to rise.only to have another asshole cut you off. next time i will build a fire in the middle of the road till the sun comes up.on the other hand i have met some really nice people to .and some trappers,

I think you just need to rise above the idiots in our sport and go have fun. Its my passion to chase behind my dogs and i dont really care what were chasing that day. I dont have a great inclination to teach a bunch of guys how to hunt because no one ever taught me and it seems like every time i have ever took one of these newcommers hunting they think my hunting spots are their new spots and kill everything they tree.

I am a competive person in nature but as i grow in life i realize my own real competition is myself. Did i learn from yesterdays run? Surprizingly yes, even after 20 years of being in the business. Once you figure out those idiots that cant stop preaching about themselves, how good they are and how bad everyone else is, are nearly 100% of the time suffering from low self confidence and cant catch s..t syndrome then you wont take them serious and you will sleep a lot better at night.

I think if more people would relax we would all have a much better time. I ran into some bear hunters in ID last year that were sure that all bear in the area belonged to them and they did everything possible to screw me every way they could. All it did was get me more determined and teach me some ways to screw them back the next time they F with me. I will thank them the next time i see them and i will still be chasing bears in "their" area. They should have made friends with me and life would be a lot more relaxing and enjoyable. I will still have a great hunting season because i put myself above their idiocracy and jealosy. Some other hunters did choose to be friends and i cant wait to go hang out with them again this year and share a beer at bear camp.

Its all in your hands to percieve it as a big weight on your shoulders or a little dust on the dash..... Me, im gonna see if those ol blueticks can run like the wind and treat me to a few photo sessions once again.

Great posts guys. Not sure if I could add much to it. I do know that if you dont like running into a canyon just find someone else already there. There is a simple solution to it but you have to talk amongst the hunters in the area. Last year in the mornings we would meet up or call each other on the phone to find out where every one was going so noone was stepping on anybodys toes and wasting fuel. It worked out quite well, I have not hunted this season so dont know what people are doing this year.

Try to help the new guys out best you can. I am not saying give it to em on a silver platter but give em a hand. If you want respect, give it.

You probably wont agree with everything they do, but do they agree with everything you do Probably not.

Anyway happy hunting and try and get along.

We as sportsmen must learn to get along. We have enough people and groups against us already. UNITED WE STAND but divided we all will be home on the porch remembering those hounds of old.

This topic was great reading for me. I am quite new to this forum and hunting with hounds, but also have run into some of the same things. There are a share of more experienced houndsmen in my area who have been decent enough to me as a newbie, but I have heard them all criticize one another, there dogs and there ways. So I see no matter who you are or where you live you'll see the competition in the sport.
I definately find it easier to do my own thing.
