hollands w.c. joe in b.c. canada. a true hound. the cool thing about joe is you don't have to pick the game he specialized in he is a top bobcat hound as well as in your face bay dog. labor day weekend 90 degrees and two inches of dust in the gravel road, dogs in the box, going 20 mile's per hour. joe strikes. we think aah a bear! we stopped and put him down, with head in the air up the hill side 100 yards to an old skid road, as soon as he hit the road he lets out a bawl. i holler down to john, turn e'm loose.dust a flying. dogs grub up the ridge for about a mile and a half. finally start to pick up the pace, we go for another hour and finally they jump under the road grade. they run for a short distance and tree. tom lion! well it seem's on this particular hunt this cat was down close to the bluffed out area looking for a bighorn sheep. we catch up the dogs. put them back up on the rig deck and in 15 minutes we get a strike.i'm looking in the dirt for a track. hey john look at this, a sow and two cub's walking in the road. i say. maybe we ought to not go looking for trouble? john say's joe don't care. i laughed and said, well that is about stupid! of course the dog don't care he can't add! john puts joe down, i reach up a turn my cloud female down. boom within 15 minutes they are bayed solid. o.k. boss what now? we walk down the canyon and here are the two cubs treed about 100 feet apart. and ma is pissed! well we never pack a rifle even in the truck in canada.even if we did it don't matter. we watch this for about three hours sitting on a huge rock outcropping. i look over to john and say, man we ought to drive back to your place and get my high power w.c. dog's from the east coast and dump them in on this bay up cause it looks like this will go on all day. john say's ok. out we hike off the mountain and grab up w.c josh. and w.c mindy. we get back into the drainage and put them right on top of this bay up. i walked into a bluffed out area to watch what happens when the rubber meets the road. i round a corner and i'm staring at this sow just 20 feet. i grab a big rock and hit her in the side with it, luckily she turns and the dogs nail her. now it is time for josh and mindy! boom they hit this sow and within two seconds had tails between the legs and heading for the rig. when you have a good w.c dog it is good, but there ain't no in between. joe is just as cool as dogs can be.

this might break the rules a bit as i did end up owning this hound later but he was great before that .the main thing that made this hound great was he trained himself better than most profesionals could have. my friend bought this pup for fifteen dollars out of a box at the sale barn "cause he was cute with them long ears and wrinkles all over". i dont know about his breeding but this black n tan pup had the reddest markings ive ever seen. any way back to the great part ! he let the pup run the ranch just like the cow dogs and cussed him for treeing house cats but at about a year this hound started hunting and would be gone all night or all day and you could hear him trailing every night. this isnt a real good habit in cow country. so he started loking for a home for him at the age of two i loaded him up and took him home with some missgivings i started hunting this dog and he never treed anything but a coon or bobcat in the time i had him.now i know he wasn,t the best hound in the world he was a little slow and hard to handle or keep home but he cought game every night with or with out you. most dogs left to run will run about any thing . now this just proves to me that you can breed cat, coon, or bear into a dog as well as you can tree or trail or desire. just wish everyone was a little better at it.

I wasnt going to post on this because who knows if my buddies will read this but Ill say it anyways. My buddy who has been helping me out with getting my own pack started and training up my dogs has had 2 dogs that have been awesome dogs. He had a dog named Kid Rock who was out of Travis Stirek's Walker blood line. Now I was just getting into hound hunting then or interested in it. My buddy, brother and I went out hunting early that morning and later that evening it started snowing big flakes that were covering tracks and we were on this road and I spotted a track in the road and it happened to be a bobcat. We check it out (this was all when he was just starting to run bobcat, this was actually the first one he ran) and I ask him if he wants to run it, hesitantly he says yes and Kid has that Tom treed in 3 mins maybe, so close we heard it from the road. Long story short we get it. This dog was a dog who died way before he should of, he was showing so much potential, one of those that can do it all. Now his other dog is a dog named Ellen. This dog is semi cold nosed and can run anything, Coon, Bear, Lion, Bobcat, she is fast, small, and has a lot of grit. She is one of those easy handling just great dogs that you cant say enough about. There are a couple others Ive seen in action that can do it all to one of them is Bearclaw who is the dad of my new pup, he is owned by another houndsmen close to us. These arent out of top bred dogs or anything, these are local breeders or just houndsmen who have pups here and there but these dogs can straight up do it all!
