The best thing I've found for putting Koppertox on a dog's feet is a soup can or some other kind of tin can. Squirt some into the can and dip the dogs foot in there. I found that out the hard way after some bad ice and lava rock tore some feet up.

I do know that no ammount of washing your hands will take that Koppertox smell off!

I learned years ago that if a guy doesn't get his hounds off a boar before dark, and if those hounds are any good, or if they have a big heart, most if not all of those dogs are in trouble the next day in the country I run in.

Before I knew better, I thought a bear probably treed and that was that--ha! A young, solid bear can and will run hard and tree--and they about always do for a good pack of hounds--then sit and rest up for an hour or two and bail and start the whole thing over again. Mind you, while that bear is resting those hounds are treeing non-stop and usually without water. But the odds are against those hounds through the course of the day and night, and then on into the next day, running through the shale, the slide rock, over those sandstone ledges, through (not over) snags and down timber and anything that happens to get in the way of that bear and those hounds.......Personally, I'm surprised more dogs aren't killed or injured in the chase alone.

But I know what you mean about thick pads, cause that old Ryan dog of mine made every tree and every race on bears and lions) for over ten years and never slipped a pad. That isn't to say that he wasn't body sore enough to not hunt from time to time, but his feet stayed under him for the most part. But that's only one dog (ever) that I have seen that lucky. I'm glad to hear there are alot of those type of dogs out there!

I did get my revenge once on a boar that must have been run out of tough country and fell into my lap, cause when my hounds got him stopped he had blown pads and bloody toes ha!
