Nice going Spruce !! Got to love dropping one in the road dont ya ? It used to happen with us quite often in the thick downeast area.Love the scope on that sports gun.Can tell hes not from Maine cant ya ? I used to get a kick out of the guys that had the big binoculars around their necks while we were crawling through thickets to get to a bayed up bear .

The boys say thanks,My brother is a taxidermist so I go down during spring break up and he helps me mount some stuff.I'm going to do a shoulder mount with both of them.I'm still starting off baits but they are getting hard to find fast.I have one more hunter this week,I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I was able to finnish my last Client of the year today. It was a great race.Gunner ,Rooster, Willie and duke cold trailed for about an hour before they jumped it.We tried running the same bear yesterday and they cold trailed about 2 hours until they came out on a road and never could find were the bear left the road.I knew the track was old because it was under about an inch of snow that we had gotten early the evenig before. The bear ran about 5 hours and never got further than about a mile and a half from the bait.He just kept circling and back tracking in these huge thickets. It was a real test for the young dogs and they pasted with flying colors. After about 2 hours Rooster had gotten a ways behind so we pulled him out. After about another hour Gunner had gotten behind, plagued by sore feet that he has been battling through out the season. The first chance we got we put Bonnie and Clyde in and they went straight to the front and got ahead of Willie and Duke.Finaly the bear made a mistake and on one of his back tracks, ran right back into Willie and Duke. All heck broke loose and the bear made a mad half mile dash.Willie got a little behind but Duke and Bonnie and Clyde caught the bear and when Willie arived,he went up a tree. Here are some pictures of the hounds that I had on my camera, the hunters father got some of the bear in the tree that I will post latter.

We ended the season the same way that we started it,by getting one more bear.We have been trying to run one more bear since we killed the last one.My right hand man for the season realy wanted to get one.I have only had a couple baits still getting hit and the problem has been that the bears have been coming in early and then the rest of the night the racoons and coyotes have been there. On the last mourning I went in and checked the camera and the last picture of a bear was just before 2 O'clock in the morning which was good, but after that a coyote was there until a little after 4 O'clock in the morning. We thought about it for a minute and decided that we should try because it would be our last chance this year.I took Gunner,Willie,Duke and Big Black into the bait.I turned Gunner loose and he didn't open until he got 250yds from the bait.I took that as a good sign because I felt that if he had taken the coyote he would have opened quicker because it was a hot track.I turned Willie into him and then I turned the young dogs in and they all went out on Gunners track. They went up over the ridge and we had to drive around to hear them. When we got over there we could tell that they had jumped it and the young dogs were in the lead.I was realy hopeing that they wouldn't catch it where they were because they were 2 miles from the nearest road,in some ruff country.About that time they turned and went back toward the bait. When we got back over there they were above the bait and running along the ridge. Then they turned down and crossed the road about a mile past the bait. They crossed before we got there and Willie was about 600yds behind so we grabed him when he crossed the road. The other dogs turned and headed back toward the road and went back across about a half amile down.Duke was ahead so I put Willie back in with him, they went about 400yds and treed.

About that time Gunner and Big Black came across the road and went and treed with them. The race lasted about 2 hours and it was a great way to end a good season.

Spruce, good job man, good lookin dogs and bears. Whats the law for training in ME can non residence train there? i hate not having a training season here, we cant run until the august season up north starts and thats a 3 hour drive in our busy season for work, so its hard to get up there, anyways congrats and keep it up.
