You must be from Dushane or Vernal then I guess. I bet it is hard to hunt out there right now. I watched on the news that you guys are in the minus 0's. I bet that makes it almost impossible to take the dogs out in doesn't it?

"The main part, or right in the Heart of the Basin"....

Must be talking about a different Basin than the one I know in Eastern Utah. Cuz that Basin doesn't have a heart, just a sphincter. :D :D

You drop off Soldier Creek and down that canyon, it's pretty obvious you're not dropping into the chest cavity...

In fact, ain't there a sign at Current Creek saying, "Now entering the Colon, please drive with caution"... ?? ;)

You got that figured out Mutz, but some of the hardy (or dumb ones) doggers are out in this crap anyway. I loaded several hounds and went scouting yesterday, made a couple walks looking for tracks and all. But I screwed up and took five hounds along on that walk as well. Those mutts struck a couple bobcats and I made them quit the first one. Then on the way back to the truck one of those knot-heads struck another and I just didn't have the heart to make them quit the second--big mistake.

That track had some frost in it so it was hard to age, and they ended up cold-trailing the rest of the day. I made one walk in but didn't get them cut off before dark, then set at the end of a road after dark trying to call them out--shot my gun a couple times and the two older dogs quit and came out. The two three year olds and the five year old didn't and they spent the night on the mountain. I left my jacket for them and they were all three laying on it around 5:30 this morning, and damn glad to see the old man.

Yes, it's tough to want to load dogs in this crap....... I'm just looking forward to spring.

When I say heart Brent, I'm talking about the boiler room or right in the middle.......somewhere between Duchesne and Vernal huh? And if Current Creek is the Colon then that would put Roosevelt about where the heart should be..........

I just can't figure out why people are moving out here though, cause if the Basin isn't the arm-pit of Utah then what is--Payson? Spanish Fork? Elk Snout?

Tree'em if you got'em but ol Ike's a gonna stay home til spring,
ike

I'm going to withhold comment on Payson or Spanish Fork so I don't offend any of my neighboring houndsmen. :)

I never said I didn't like Roosevelt, but you gotta wonder about a town that has a statue of a roll of toilet paper in the town square. Maybe your founding fathers just weren't great at anatomy and weren't sure where the heart is. ;)

Us poor folks in Elk Ridge can't afford that high class livin' you got out there. We're just poor simple country folk out here in the hills. We don't even have a gas station or a store. All we got is a golf course. Geez, we don't even have a reservation like you guys. :(

But one day I promised my kids when our ship came in we were gonna go get a slice of that high livin' out there... I got my eyes on Myton or if I really strike it rich, maybe even the very heart of the Basin... Roosevelt.

I'll even throw in a couple extra rolls of Charmin as a little gift for the town council. ;)

I'm sure they would welcome you with open arms Brent. But you might should bump the couple rolls of Charmin up to a case, cause the chit will get plenty deep with another dog box around....................

You know Mutz, if you want to hear tales of hound greatness you don't have to drive halfway across the state to do it. Nope, take the short trip from Logan to Hyrum and visit the original Hawn's Lounge. Hawn starts serving beer at 10 a.m. and by noon on any given day the stories will be flowing.

You might even be able to rustle you up a card game..........it's one of the few places where 4 aces gets beat by a pair of deuces and a one-eyed jack!

Aint that the way life is Mutz, I spend all these years making a pack of Aces only to find out I need Jokers to win...........I want to know who changed the rules :?:

I never can tell if you guys are serious or just kidding each other. :(
I want to ask a stupid question. How old of scent can your dogs follow? I hear you guys talking about two and three day old tracks. Geeze that seems like a long time for a dog to be able to still smell a track. And I thought cats were real clean so they didn't leave much scent?
