Yep it sure does. You know my fellow houndsmen can be real a$$holes and I have noticed over the years that most have an agenda if they befriend you. They want to use you to learn your good spots and then they don't need you anymore. The young guys new to the sport are all out to prove something and are cocky jerks with attitudes. If these same houndsmen treat wardens like they do their fellow houndsmen then I don't blame wardens for watching you. True friends are always there when you need them and vice versa. And for those reasons I call more wardens friends than houndsmen here in Wyoming.

Posse have these wardens ever spent much time hunting with you, or rode around in a truck with you for a day or two? That could expain why they are your only friends, they havent spent much time with you i bet. You say your fellow houndsmen are a$$holes, yea im sure some are. You ever think they just got tired of your know it all attitude, and the poor me shit all the time. You do nothing but make excuses for yourself and your dogs, and complain about how people screw you over. You just look for a free ride or anyone to take you hunting. Quit pointing the finger at everyone elseand take a look in the mirror.
Sorry to get off subject guys but i can only bitemy tongue for so long.
Ive met a handfull of good wardens, and some i didnt care for much at all.I dont give any information unless they ask.

I have hunted with my warden friends. It is obvious you know nothing about me because I hunt alone the majority of the times and if I do go with a friend I take my own rig. I hunt in the areas I have always hunted and am not looking to go hunt with anyone anywhere else. So have no clue where you got your info, but get it right before you talk your crap.

Gee, let me think i picked you up at your house a handful of times, took you hunting in my truck, because you didnt have one, or a job. Even hauled you to Colorado to go hunting, all on my $, not that i was expecting anything. I Found those red "superstars" of yours a ride from New Mexico to Ft. Collins, then to my place in Evansville, used up a couple favors doing this. Yet your fellow houndsmen are asseholes. Think before you open your big mouth!

You know damn well I didn't even want to go to CO. You guys insisted I did. As for the rest. You were the one that asked me if I wanted to go hunting and when I said I didn't want to take that Toyota I had you offered for me to jump in. I have never said anything bad about you... Never... and you know it. I said the majority are a$$holes and they are. You knew my best friend is a warden and even though you teased me about it. I was never offended by that. I have always thanked you for all you have done for me. I do not care for a person you hang out with, but I as I said I have never said or done anything against you. If you took this post personal I am sorry. I posted it because a couple out of state guys ticked me off this week being a$$holes.

I think this thread pretty much proves why houndsmen are treated the way they are.

I understand what your saying. and if you are roading your dogs where you know bears are at your looking for trouble.

BUT

My friends were sitting at a gas station after a hunt and the game warden pulled in and harassed them for over an hour. I have been stopped while in the woods but with no dogs out or on the box and had my truck taken apart and asked a bunch of innapropriate questions durring season yet i have never done anything wrong, never had a ticket nothing. I have been stopped and checked while deer hunting and everything went smooth but i have never in my life been harassed so much until i put a dog box in my truck. I have plenty of friend's and family that are sheriff's officers, city cops, chp's, air marshal, ICE you can name it i know someone doing it so i know what harassment is.

You were not forced to go to CO. Yes i did call you when i moved to WY, that was probly around the same time you were trying to get anyone in the country to take you hunting when you didnt have a job or truck.Then you start texting me all the time trying to get me to come hunt up there with you. Remember? "there are no big toms out in those rock piles" WRONG! Now of course there are no lions up there, i recall you even saying that the lion hunting has exspired around Kaycee. I call the quota a week ago, unit 15, 21 lions taken so far, last season 29 cats taken i believe, the season before that 35. correct me if i am wrong im just going of the top of my head. Im thinkin there is still a few around.
I did not take anything you said personal, i actually got a good laugh out of it.
My point is, if you spent a little less time acting like you know everything about lions, making excuses for you and your dogs, and lay off the poor me shit, you may have some good friends to hunt with.
Go back through some of your posts on here and facebook, and you wonder why people give you shit. Imagine if it were one of the guys posting that crap, they would be gettin a lot more shit then you do.

Do you guys think anything is going to change by not getting to know your warden? I'm sure their perception of houndsmen may have come from a few bad apples years back or from when ever. "Your" responsible for changing their perception of "you". Go to some sportsmans banquets, or the like, (wardens are usually there) and talk to them out of the hunting element. Let them get to know you as a person not a hunter. Nothings going to change unless "you" make it happen.

I agree with your point, but it all depends on the warden. Some are great guys, who would help a guy out but still enforce a the law if a guy is doing something wrong. I truly respect those types because they really have a thankless job to do.

For others, thier sole intention is to find ANY major/minor violation to give you a ticket, and/or then confiscate whatever critter in the situation. Or they try to fish you for information so they can then try to put the squeeze on someone else. These are the types that it is best to say as little as possible to. If you want to offer up info to these types, go right ahead but it's going to bite you in the end.

From my experience, WI wardens (with the exception of two I know) mostly fall into the second category. A guy would feel less violated by a full body cavity search than a conversaton with them. I've been checked by wardens in numerous other states and canada and have never had a bad experience.

Have your dogs get mixed up with someone else's pack and get over the six dog limit. I will bet that they won't understand. I had a friend who had to leave a 400lb bear in the tree in kill season when a neighboring group's dog wandered in to their tree with a warden there.

I think this has gotten off topic some. It is illegal to hunt bears with dogs in Montana. This scenario doesn't imply sneaky tactics by a law enforcement officials trying to make something legal into something illegal. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that a bear in a tree with dogs barking underneath it, is probably being hunted. In most states, hunting includes harrasment and pursuit with dogs. Whether or not he has a gun. There are precautions a person could take if they are worried about roading dogs in an area where there are bears. I saw one guy on here, from Vermont I think, who roaded his dogs tied off to a tire. If I was in this situation, I would plan on being able to go to the road where the bear was started and show dog tracks going up the road, ect....... If this scenario were to play out, I would simply state I was roading my dogs, offer to show them the dog tracks (assuming there are some). And anything else, I'd leave to an attorney.

Honesty is always the best policy. I always let the wardens know where I am hunting, roading, or camping. They are also the ONLY ones that I tell about my hunts (unless you are a friend of mine on FB) If my dogs run off game I always let the warden know.

A little tidbit of info I have learned from my warden friends is if you screw up and do something wrong and are questioned about it. Don't lie or get defensive. Be honest and nice and you will probably just get a warning depending on the wildlife violation. They are good guys and not "out to get you" unless you are purposly breaking the law.

this could quite possibly be the worst advice ever given on this site. Saying nothing, volunteering nothing, and admitting nothing in a polite non defensive way will save you alot of headaches. We have rights to be out with our dogs whenever we want, that shouldn't warrant 20 questions. Does a guy out excersizing his lab get accused of hunting birds illegally by fwp, no, so leave me the F%&K alone and go play your game warden games with somebody whose dumb enough to let you.

I think this is where it all went sideways, some of these conversations are pretty interesting even if it makes us look like a bunch of nitwits. I find myself getting frustrated with Law Enforcement because of the way I have been treated. I have hunted for 20 years. The first 10 without dogs, only to be very nicely checked by Wardens a couple times to make sure I had my correct license etc. The years I owned hounds I was checked, well actually harassed, by Wardens in multiple states on a regular basis. There was a day when I was checked three times in one day. I think I spent more time that day talking to wardens than hunting. It wasn't my demeanor or reputation, it was the fact I had a dog box in the truck. We have a very bad relationship with wardens, that does need to be addressed. I think that is why these posts run on like they do. By the way, after years of running around with a dog box in the truck. I have to agree with Larry.

I agree with Larry on the premise. It's pretty obvious by my first 2 posts. I currently live in a pretty hound friendly state but I was born and raised in Washington, not far from you. I had hounds for several years there, before I moved. The simple fact is this. If you do nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide. Do I agree with the 20 questions? Nope. Would I play their game? Not as a rule. Would I even consider the approach BHP mentioned? Never. I think it's absurd. I can't say I was ever "harrassed" in Washington. Although I know of people who were. I was really just trying to get the post back on to the topic and off of the personal stuff.
