I agree Mike. What a great foundation and a great group of guys that have stepped up to make this all happen for our veterans. I'm glad I am able to help out.
Mike, have you made arrangements for shipping Justin's bear? Looks like it will be complete in about three weeks!

I think it would be an amazing experience to be able to take one of these soldiers, difficult at times but amazing and fun. I really admire this program. Thanks for keeping us all posted as you go through the different steps its really cool. I already learned a million things I didn't know about how a mount goes.

Wow, I am beyond words, the hard work put into this bear for me is unbelievable. I'm very impressed with the progress and also very excited to see it in person. Thanks Dean, your hard work is very much appreciated, I actually feel bad that you're putting so much hard work in and you have never even met me. I know the reason why everyone involved is doing this, but I am starting to feel bad because I don't feel like I did anything special, I just did what I wanted to do. It's hard to feel that I deserve this, thank you so much.

OK, back to work on this bear. I was distracted by a week of good conditions for cat chasing.

During the past week, I puttied up the mouth, eyes and nose. This fills in any gaps around these areas where the hide comes up next to them. Next step is painting.
The pads on this bear needed some putty because they were cut during skinning so to hide that seam, they got some putty. I do these in a soft black color, I don’t want them to look too dark.

Being a black colored bear, most of the areas around the nose and eyes get black paint. This is done with an airbrush. The mouth is a different story. It gets about four different colors. Once the paint dries then a light coat of clear to seal it and this mount is done.
Here’s some before and after pictures.

Next step is to finish the base. The rock first gets some filler into the seam areas to hide where the form left small gaps when the foam was poured.

Then it gets about 4-5 colors of rock paint.

Another day to finish the wood area of the base, set the plants, moss, etc. and this bear will be ready for pickup.

We're looking for a ride for this bear from Denver to Klammath Falls. Preferably without having to build a crate for it. Any ideas?

Final write up and some finished pictures in a few days.

Looks awesome! I'm excited to see this bear again. I know that there is some difficulty in finding this bear a ride home, but I'm not sure what I can do on my part. I'll call you Dean today to talk about this issue.

Today was the final day for the WWIA project. Yesterday after painting the wood portion of the base, I brushed on a layer of fiberglass resin. I then applied a granite/dirt combination to the wet resin so when it dried, the ‘dirt’ was held fast to the base. Some more ‘dirt’ applied to some areas of the rock to blend it in and the base was ready for some artificial plants.
image.jpg

The dirt that I use is right from my property but it is washed several times, let dry, and stored to be used for this type of base. The reason I do this is to make sure there isn’t any type of living organisms that could later come back to haunt me. Any natural wood that I use is also washed and fumigated for the same purpose.

I ran down to the local Hobby Lobby and found some suitable plants that would replicate the forest areas in the Pacific Northwest where this bear was taken. I then mounted the bear back onto the base and bolted it down. This allowed me to know where the plants could go without interfering with the mount. I then added some wood to the base that I collect and keep on hand for just this type of base and then added the plants. The mount is complete.

I realized if I got off my butt, I might just be able to get Justin his bear before Christmas. I got a hold of the shipping company last night and arranged to have Justin's bear picked up this afternoon. I built a crate this morning and got it ready to ship.Justin should have his bear before Christmas.

Kirkuk to Haifa Israel Pipeline: Reason for the War?

The Observer
By Steven Scheer

LONDON (Reuters) - Israeli Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he
expected an oil pipeline from Iraq to Israel to be reopened in the
near future after being closed when Israel became a state in 1948.

"It won't be long when you will see Iraqi oil flowing to Haifa," the
port city in northern Israel, Netanyahu told a group of British
investors, declining to give a timetable.

"It is just a matter of time until the pipeline is reconstituted and
Iraqi oil will flow to the Mediterranean."

James Madison:
“Of all the Enemies to public liberty, War is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes.
And armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few.
In war, too, the discretionary power of the Executive is extended. Its influence in dealing out offices, honors, and emoluments is multiplied; and all the means of seducing the minds, are added to those of subduing the force of the people.
The same malignant aspect in republicanism may be traced in the inequality of fortunes, and the opportunities of Fraud, growing out of a state of war, and in the degeneracy of manners and morals, engendered by both.
No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.”

“Over grown military establishments are under any form of government inauspicious to liberty, and are to be regarded as particularly hostile to republican liberty.”
-George Washington
