I agree Mike, my concern was for the future of cat hunting and to see what everyone else thought. We sure don't need to be fighting amongst ourselves but i also believe that a good honest debate can be helpful.

Real interesting discussion. I know nothing about Oregon cat hunting but always interesting to read other state's discussions.

Just to put a little joy into the post, be grateful that you guys can have this kind of discussion in your own management. You guys at least have the option to talk about taking more bobcats in the "good" years and less in the "bad" years to rebound the population.

Us Wisconsin boys have to wait 8-10 years (and it is getting longer) to even have the opportunity to harvest one when our population is arguably the highest in recent history. I'm not belly aching, and I'm definitely not a gotta kill to have fun type of guy, I'm just giving a different state's situation. Granted states vary greatly with ecosystems and bobcat populations but still some similarities exist in management.

Not trying to start anything with this post, just thought another state's situation may be interesting for some people. I wish ya'll luck with it all.

Sometimes it is good to hear from outsiders...This after all in an open forum and your participation is appreciated....I guess we have it pretty good compared to Wisconsin. I concur with you Robin about a good debate and find you to generally be in the know about game and hunting Oregon and know like most others, you only want what is best for the sport. 1000 humble apologies go out to Al for spinning this thread on its head. Real easy to tell when regulation season has ended in Oregon for bobcats.

No apologies needed mike. Believe some good came out, hope some others caught on. These type debates have gone on since bobcats have been hunted in this area, according to the stories I heard from some who hunted before I. I do believe would be wise to put a cap on # western Oregon cats legally allowed per hunter, but never thought it would happen. The number that really sticks in my mind would be 30, why would any hunter who really likes to hunt bobcat with hounds, object to preserving the bobcats. In reconsidering, Marks Idea for the third card to be 500 might be a good compromise. One thing I know for certain, combination, snares, traps& hounds make it awfully tough for any bobcat to escape from a hunter who has knowledge with all three. Al

For over a half century i've pursued the little red rocket of the Oregon coast. The 2 yearlings i have now are the seventh generation of my dogs.Have always bred for the complete and balanced bobcat dog.At times the dogs and I have been frustrated and stymied by the slick manaveurs of ole stubtail, other times they've treed him as if they pulled him from a magicians hat.A small bundle of dynamite, life is never dull in his pursuit.I hope and pray that long after i'm gone he will still be leading a hard running pack of hounds on a fast and furious chase through the countryside and once again he'll disappear like the morning mist.
