I don’t think I have had moose, my brother is headed to Co next month for a cow moose hunt. Maybe I’ll be able to talk him out of a little bit lol.
Thanks Joe, I’ll make it a point to get it on ice as soon as possible.

I think the preparation is exactly what the problem was. I promise it was bad though. Even my nephew took a bite and spit it out. He said oh my gosh, you like that?!! Lol I said no not even a little bit.

 I've killed a few critters that even my dogs scoffed at the meat when offered to them, 1 bull elk and a few mule deer bucks but for the most part if the animal is taken care of properly and harvest in an quick and efficient manner the meat will be tender and delicious.

Got the dogs out for some much needed exercise tonight, been working nights so needed to keep my night owl schedule so took them out so I can sleep some of the day tomorrow. My youngest male opened twice in the box on the way down the mountain after a nice run so I stopped and let the boys out just to see what happened...finally having them rig is awesome :D

That’s one thing I wish my dogs did was let me know when they are smelling from the buggy. If I can see them I know by their body language but they won’t say anything. Now when they hit the ground, if we haven’t gone far from where they were rigging, they will go back to that spot. I try and cast into the wind as much as possible so a lot of times they will all be facing it with that business look and as soon as you cast them they are kicking rocks and headed to
It. It may be right there and it may be a mile but most times you can’t hardly draw a straighter line on the garmin with a ruler from cast spot to the hogs no matter how far it is.

Its been a battle getting them to open in or on the box, I use to hunt places you had to go through subdivisions and leave your truck close to houses while looking for tracks so I was always hard on them for barking in the box. I've been out tons of times with guys with good rig dogs, but quite a few of them have dogs that never stop barking in the box and I'm not willing to tolerate that. I usually end up asking how the hell they tell the difference between their constant babbling and when they actually rig a bear. But they are usually spot on when they turn down. So far when I get an actual bark I catch one ,hopefully they keep up the good work.

I’m with you on the nonsense barking. Mine are just quiet. It’s nothing I’ve done it’s just how they are. I hope they keep working for you the same. It’s always fun to see young dogs figure things out.

I’m with you guys on the babbling in the box. I get after them kinda hard. It’s the worst when I only have half the dogs out. The others sit there and whine or jealousy bark.

I have a young male that’s starting to rig too, Joe. It’s always been trash so far but if I can get him to start rigging lions and bobs I’ll be a happy camper.

The wife got her antelope. He’s a good Buck about 12” tall and she killed him all by herself. She spotted him and stalked him on her own. The shot was about 110 yards, she double lunged him and he went about 100 foot before he fell over. She’s pretty darned proud of herself and I’m proud of her too! She’s came a long ways from having never hunted before meeting me.

Tell her congratulations rowdy!! I think you will be impressed with the quality of that meat, what kinda country was he in...sage brush, ranch lands?

Thanks Joe! It was mountain sage but a lot of grass too because it was near an old town. We have the meat in the fridge aging. I picked up a commercial fridge this summer and I decided to use it for aging meat instead of building a walk in cooler. We’ll see how it works out!

My dogs open rigging very well. I only run fox and bobcats. My problem is they rig everything! I put them down they do not run the trash but they dang sure rig it. It’s very aggravating, fox and cats are scarce but yotes, deer, bear and possums are very very numerous.

I've seen deer, elk and tons of beef cows cross ahead of me and the dogs not be able to see them and never get a peep, last winter I had 1 rigging mule deer and moose and I'd put him down but he never once ran one and now he's stopped. I use to road my dogs to get a race going which is great exercise but a lot of times by the time you get 1 going they've covered a ton of ground.

That’s exactly my problem with roading them, Joe. We have a lot less lions here than everywhere else so I might cover 100 miles or more between tracks that I find and can verify are lion tracks. That’s why I don’t get out and walk ridges or canyons if I can help it.
