https://youtube.com/shorts/K4Iondtwdw4? ... xkhbb9uKZf had an absolute amazing time ! Chased a ton of bears, weather was way hotter than expected but we managed to catch a few before it was 85 degrees. Saw tons of awesome country and plants and creatures I've never seen. Trip unfortunately was cut a touch short after this video, dogs started another bear and my 4 year old dog I call july was bit by 2 different rattle snakes on the same foot. He laid up 2 miles from the road. Took over 6 hours to get him to a vet and his blood pressure was crashing. But he made it through so far but is so swollen all-over, hopefully he makes a complete reco

Son of a gun, did you give him anything before you got into town?

Yes my buddies that hunt there a bunch had some anti-inflammatory pills and benadryl, he also gave him a shot of dexamethason or something like that but it was so bad and had been in him so long it didn't help.

Damn I haven’t had a dog bit and all I knew to give them is Benadryl. Did the vet give you any advice on what to do before you get them in to the vet?

Get there as quickly as possible and give them the benadryl. Lots of fluids as well if they will drink

Joe, copy that. I’m gonna put together a vet box for the truck. I used to run one when I hog hunted but since I switched to hounds I haven’t had any problems. The snakes scare me though…

I have a nice kit but have only ever used bandages and vet rap, plan to continue going back south so will definitely be adding some things.

lawdawgharris,
I was hoping you would've forgot. Where do I start? Last Friday morning before we make the 6 hour drive up to Tyler, I put the dogs in the 35 acre enclosure to run some of the pigs in there to get them fired up. We were slow cruising in the buggy and the two ding a lings are running around checking scent.
We get to the area where there's a sounder of about 3/4 sows and a pack of sausages, my female finds them and gets them moving, I see her running alongside one of the sows, then my dopey male comes back like he didn't even smell them. I don't know what happened, but my female came back a little roughed up. I didn't see what happened, but she looked like she was rolling in something.
We go to the water tank to cool them off, but they found a coon in the trap we set there the day before. Of course, they bark their heads off at it for a bit before I load them all up and go to the truck.
We get to the trials and my female looks bad, she isn't moving well and I'm thinking I need to find a shovel to bury her. I give her two shots of dex, clavamox and some cbd drops and hope she gets better.
Next morning, she looks right as rain, I enter them in some events all of which they fail at. I'm banking on them to show off in the bay pen. We get a practice run in the pen Saturday night, she looks like her old self, but my young male isn't really firing yet. He's been on three hogs in the woods, makes the whole trip with all the other dogs but hasn't started barking at the bay yet. Well, he finally starts baying pretty nice when he's with my female, I leave there thinking maybe we'll do ok.
Sunday comes and we go to the bay pen, my female goes into the one dog (which she won 1st place in 2019) and she's looking good, then she starts looking out (4times). I knew she wouldn't place after that. Then my male gets his turn, he looks like a young, inexperienced dog. I pull him out, we wait our turn for the two dog event. We go in and she's baying pretty good, the male is distracted and looking all around. So, I knew then we were cooked. We loaded up and rolled out. It was good to see old friends and make some new ones too.
Sorry for the lengthy post but looking back I'm certain my female got a beatdown from that sounder, I found a cut on her yesterday, even though she looked ok, I don't think she was fully recovered from the beating she took. Those sows are some mean pigs.

Awe man hate you had the tough luck. I’m glad she’s ok though. They wouldn’t be dogs if they didn’t keep you on your toes. At least you got to visit with good people and talk about dogs.

It's all good, now I'll just tell people I have woods dogs. She's usually pretty good about avoiding damage, but she has taken some hits over the years. I think they bit her leg, she wouldn't put any weight on it for a day, that happened to her when a sounder rallied on her and another dog near Crockett back in 2018.

I went out yesterday and took my son on his first hunt. First time the dogs didn’t trash but also the first time they didn’t run anything. Found one lion killed buck and an older set of female tracks. Found a decent range to put up some trail cams when the first of the year hits. The roads are all washed out bad from the monsoons this year. Entire sections of the road were gone with anywhere from 3’-15’ deep holes in their place. I plan to hunt that area on horse back, after deer season is over.
My youngest male tore the back half off both his front pads some how. It happened only a couple hundred yards from the truck and none of the others had any problems. What have you guys been using for injured pads? I have tried tuff foot and Kopertox both worked about the same but the tuff foot burns cuts so the dogs hate it.
